Chapter 1
I opened my eyes and saw darkness. Darkness with tiny white dots. Where am I? When my eyes adjust I sit up and look around. I'm in the middle of Beacon Hills Preserve. I look up. The so called darkness with tiny white dots is the sky. It's the middle of the night, what am I doing here?
I try to get up but something is restricting me. I look down at myself. I'm wear the dress that I had on the night of the winter formal seven years ago. I also notice I'm sitting on a giant stump. The Nemeton.
I manage to stand up and look around. I have a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. The kind of feeling that means I need to run like hell.
I try to take a step but something wraps around my ankle and I fall, my body slammed onto the tree stump. I look down alarmed. Vines have grown out from the stump and wrapped themselves around my ankles and are growing up my legs. I pull at them but the vines squeeze tighter.
A growl emerges from the silence of the preserve. I slowly look up to see the alpha that attacked me. It slowly walks toward me. I yank and pull at the vines, struggling to get away but nothing helps. The vines have gripped onto me so tight they've cut through my legs and are now wrapped around my bones.
I look up at the alpha. It begins to transform in front of me, back into human form. I want to look away. I don't want to know who's inside the beast but I can't. My eyes are glued to the person.
I gasp as the alpha becomes human. "Kali?!" I asked alarm. I yank at the vines but I cry out as they crush my bones. I lock eyes with her.
She snarled at me. "Wake up!" She screams at me. She jumps at me. Claws out, teeth extended, eyes glowing blue. I scream as loud as I can.
"Eva!" A white light shines in my face. I scream and thrash. "Eva!" Hands wrap around my arms. I trash harder and scream louder than I thought I could. "Eva, wake up!" I gasp and my vision clears.
I stare back at the person who grabbed my arms. "Mom?" Her soft eyes stare into mine. "You're alive?" Tears come to my eyes. "Shh." She wraps her arms around me and pulls me close. "It's okay, sweetheart. It was just a dream. It was all a dream." I clung to her arms as tears escaped from my eyes.
It was a dream. My parents aren't dead. I'm not a werewolf. I never met Derek. I didn't die three times. I'm human. I'm alive. It was all just a nightmare. Just like I prayed it was.
"Get away from her!" My mother was ripped from my grasp. A crossbow was pointed at my head. I looked down the arrow at the person.
"Dad?" My mother pulled away from my father's grip and tried to pull the bow away from him but he stretched out an arm to stop her. "What the hell are you doing, Cole?" She yelled at him frantically. "She's one of them, Elena. She's not in there anymore. That's just a monster with her face." He looked like my father but he didn't sound like it.
"Cole!" My mother tried to get the bow away from him but she couldn't. My father's outstretched arm was holding her back. "You know the code, Elena!" He yelled at her.
"Daddy, please." I begged. His expression went from ridged to rage. "You're not my daughter. You killed her. Now I'm going to kill you."
My mother screamed. I covered my ears to prevent my eardrums from exploding. The windows and mirrors shattered, making glass rain down around us. However my father seemed unaffected.
"Eva, Wake up!" She yelled at me. "Wake up!" I heard my father pull the trigger and the arrow released.
I sat straight up in bed, breathless. I was in Derek's bedroom in the Hale house. "Eva?" Derek sat up beside me and put his hand on my back. "What's wrong?" His voice was laced with sleep but his tone was undoubtably concerned.
I shook my head and rubbed my eyes. "Nothing it was just a nightmare." I reassured him. What the hell is wrong with me? He rubbed his hand against my back. "I'm right here. It's okay just go back to sleep." Derek laid back down.
I rubbed my face and was about to lay down beside him but the bedroom door creaked open. I tried to see of anyone was there but I didn't see anyone. "Go back to sleep, Eva." Derek mumbled in his pillow. I ignored him. I threw the covers off of me and got out of bed. The floor was cold against my bare feet as I walked toward the door.
I reached out for the doorknob but the bedroom door flew open. Laura stumbled through the door and fell to the floor. She was covered in blood and there was an arrow in her stomach. "Wake up, Eva!" She yelled.
I heard the sound of a releasing arrow. Pain rushed through my body as my hands grabbed onto the arrow that was lodged in my chest.
"Wake up!" Laura yelled at me. I looked into the hallway to see Chris and my father. "Wake up!" Laura screamed. I stumbled backwards and fell.
My back hit something hard and I screamed and thrashed. I struggled out of whatever was around me. Light blinded me as I freed myself. I shielded my eyes and looked around. I was twisted in the bed sheets, in the floor. I must have fallen out of the bed.
I rubbed my face and looked around. It was just a nightmare. All of it was just a nightmare. It's fine. I looked over to the bed.
Derek was gone. I wrapped the sheets around me and got up. There was a piece of paper on the table. I walked over to read it.
Headed out. I'll be back soon. Don't worry. - Derek
Weird. The note wasn't in Derek's handwriting or Peter's for that matter. And Derek would have left me a voicemail, not a note.
I picked up my phone out of my bag and called him. After a few rings his voicemail picked up. I looked at my phone weird. Derek always answer his phone when I call. I dialed Peter's number. Voicemail.
Something's not right. If Derek and Peter aren't answering there phones something is wrong. Actually more than something being just wrong. They're in trouble.
