Chapter 83
"It's okay." I said standing beside
Parrish. He held out his hands to Derek. Derek took them and turned them over. Parrish looked at me concerned. I nodded to him in reassurance. Derek glanced up at him, then to me and then back down to Parrish's hands.
"He covered you in gasoline?" Derek asked. Parrish nodded and looked over at me. Derek let go of his hands. Parrish took a step back. "It's the hair and nails, isn't it?" Lydia asked Derek. He looked at her. "The parts of the body that are essentially dead." Lydia clarified. "Well, they should be gone." Derek told her.
"I was set on fire. All of me should be gone." Parrish said pointing to himself. There were so many emotions flying around the room I was getting a headache. "Not if you're like us." Scott said. Like us? "Us" is not one kind of supernatural, last time I checked. "Like you?" Parrish asked. "I don't think he's like us." Derek said. "Us" as in werewolves? Or banshee? Or kitsune? "Then what is he?" Lydia asked. Yes! What? "Sorry, but I have no idea." Derek said. Ug. "But you knew about Jackson and Kira." Scott pointed out. "This is a little out of my experience. There might be something in the bestiary. Did you try Argent?" Derek asked. Argent. When was the last time I talked to him? "I don't know where he is. Would your father know?" Scott asked. My eyes darted toward him with enough hate red to fill the world. "My father is not on our side, remember?" I snapped angrily. Scott knew he had hit a sore spot and I could feel him backing away from me.
"Okay, hold on. What's a bestiary? Actually, that's not even my first question. Just... Just tell me one thing. Are all of you like Lydia?" Parrish asked. I glanced at Lydia. Had she told him? "Are you all psychic?" Parrish clarified. Scott looked at Derek. "Psychic?" I asked confused. Lydia's not exactly "psychic" per say. More like intuitive. "Yeah." Parrish said a little less confident. Poor guy. I know this is really confusing. "Not exactly." Scott said. "Okay. Then what are you?" Pareiah asked confused. Derek and Scott looked at each other. Then down at me. Both Derek and I looked at Scott. Scott closed his eyes. When he opened them they were red. Scott nodded to me. I blinked and my eyes glowed blue and red.

Parrish shook his head. "What's a Kanima?" He asked. I exhaled. It's always the Kanima part people get confused on. Lydia looked at Scott. "We'll get back to that." Scott said taking the opposite side of the couch from him. "Just know that everyone like us, everyone with some kind of supernatural ability is on the dead pool." Scott said. That damn dead pool! "But I don't even know what I am." Parrish said. Yeah you're not the only one. "I'm pretty sure they don't care." I said. I'm beginning to question what I am. "How many professional assassins are we talking about?" Parrish said. I sighed. "We're starting to lose count." Lydia said. There was a since of hopelessness in her voice.
"But is it still just professionals?" Scott asked. "I don't think Haigh's ever tried anything like this. I think he was taking a chance." Parrish said. I shook my head. "I'm pretty sure the ME wasn't." I said "That means anyone with the dead pool can take a chance." Derek said. "But if Haigh had it, them who else does? How easy is it to get this thing now?" Parrish asked. I exhaled defeated and sat on the table. I covered my face with my hands. How many people had their greedy eyes on the money over my head?
"Eva?" Parrish asked. He was scared but not for himself. It was for me. "She's just worried. She's worth the most out of everyone." Derek clarified. Why me? "How much?" Parrish asked. I sighed and looked up. "400 million." Parrish looked he was about to fall over in the floor.
"What makes a supernatural worth that much?" Lydia asked. My father's undying desire to have me killed. "If any of them had brains they might realize that if someone is worth that much that they're nearly impossible to kill." Derek commented. Nearly impossible? That stretching it a bit much. "I guess they're desire for money overpowers their brained but I don't know." Scott said. He looked over at me.
"Do you know?" Scott asked me. "Hey!" I said defensively , putting my hands up. "Power gain not profit gain. It's different" I reminded him. "Wait, you've killed people for power before?" Parrish asked. "Yes but we can elaborate on that later."
