Chapter 72

Melissa, Derek and Satomi came into the morgue. Derek stood beside me as Satomi stood on the other side of him and Melissa stood closer to the body.

"It's a variant of canine distemper." Deaton diagnosed the wolf. He turned to Melissa. "A few years ago, an outbreak in Yellowstone killed 40 percent of the wolf population." Deaton said. 40%? Dead? That's almost half. "What's it going to do to our wolf population?" Mellisa asked concerned. That's what o want to know. "Well, it's been altered to infect quite a bit faster." Deaton said. Altered? You can alter a virus? What do they teach kids in school now a days? "You mean it's been weaponized?" Derek asked. An assassin scientist? Who woulda thought? "It infected my whole pack." Satomi said. "Everyone except for you. That's the real question. Did you not get infected? Or are you immune?" Deaton asked. Derek looked at her and she looked to the side.

Deaton covered the body. "If your pack was infected, then who was doing all the shooting at the entrance to the woods?" Derek asked. "Apparently another assassin. Personally, I'd rather face a gun than a variant of smallpox." She said. Amen to that, sister! "Sounds like you're going to get plenty of chances." Mellisa said.

Satomi looked at Derek. He looked at her staring. "Sorry." She apologized and looked away. "I just noticed how much you remind me of Talia." She said. Derek nodded and looked away. "I used to visit her a lot, you know?" She said. Derek looked at her. "Do you remember me?" She asked. "I remember the tea. You always brought that tea that smelled terrible." Derek said smirking. "I brought that tea as a gift. Your mother loved it." She said. Probably before me time but who knows. There wasn't a lot of days I was at home too much.

"What kind of tea?" Deaton asked. He had that "I may be staring at nothing but lots of wheels are spinning in my head" look. Everyone turned to him. "What?" Satomi asked. "The tea with the smell, what kind was it?" He clairified. "Reishi. Wild purple reishi. It's very rare." She said. "It's also a very powerful remedy for sickness. Satomi, you didn't get infected because you've been inoculated." He said. "Okay, okay. How rare is it? Can we find it?" Mellisa asked anxious. "We don't have to. My mother kept some of it. It's in our vault." Derek said.

I gasped when I suddenly felt that someone had stabbed me in the chest. I grabbed onto Derek as my vision went black.

A gun pointed at someone's head. Red-Blue eyes glowed. Someone hit the the floor. Blood splattered everywhere. Roaring filled the noise. Blood splattered against the plastic. A red dot speared on someone's head. A gun went off again and again. Someone's eyes went dead. Gun fire scattered. The lockers lined up. Gun fire. Banging again and again. And the thick taste of blood.

I gasped as my eyes shot open. I looked around disoriented. Blood. So much blood. It was suffocating.

"Eva, what is it?" Derek asked. It? It was everything. Then it all pieces together. My eyes, wild, darted to Melissa. "Call Stilinski. He's in the locker room. The- The boys locker room. He has to get in there. He can't hesitate." I shook my head. "Now! Call him now!" I yelled. My head was all over the place. He can't be too late. "Who's in the locker room, Eva?" Derek asked. "Stiles! He's in the locker room. Oh God. He's gonna die."
