Chapter 17

I walk out of the hospital elevator. After Derek and I went on our little swimming adventure we went back to the loft and I showered. I was now wearing clean clothes and my hair was still wet. I could see Alison sitting exactly were we had been earlier that evening.

I sat down beside her. "Hey." She said bringing her knees to her chest and put her head on my shoulder. She had obviously taken a shower but unlike me, her hair was dry and she had put on makeup to cover up the evidence of her crying.

I may hate wearing makeup but I can't deny the fact that if can work magic if used correctly. I wouldn't have know she had been crying if I weren't a werewolf and could smell the tears on her.

Tears had a strange smell to them. They smelled like salt water but not like the heavy salt water smell of the ocean. It smelled like pure water that had been lightly laced with a few grains of salt. There was something about them that smelled clean.

"Why do you smell like chlorine?" She asked me curiously not lifting her head. In all my years of swimming, I had never mastered the process of getting the chlorine smell off of me and getting that wretched chemical out of my hair on the first try. I wasn't going to tell her about the weird vision stuff but I also wasn't going to lie to her. "I went swimming to clear my head." She nods against my shoulder. I can tell she's exhausted. So if she would be able to tell I was holding something back, she was too tired now to see it.

"Eva." Alison mumbled. The feel of her voice against my shoulder was kind of strange. "Mhm." I was suddenly really tired. "This is going to sound kind of stupid but I love you and I'm glad your my cousin." I knew Alison and I had been getting along really well but I never expect her to say that. "No. It's not stupid." That was the last thing either of us said before we went to sleep.

I was awoken by movement beside me. I opened my eyes to see Scott and Ms. McCall standing beside us. "Have you two been here all night?" Scott asked. No, dork. Alison and I had been here for two days. Alison nodded. "Yeah, they won't let us see him because we're not family." I explained. I had told the doctors that I was Isaac's legal guardian but apparently that didn't cut it. I don't really think they believed me. But I don't really blame them, I wouldn't believe me either. Alison shook her head. "I told them he don't have any." She said sadley.

"He's got us." Ms. McCall said. "And I've got a key card." She said taking it out of her pocket. She smiled at us. Boy, so I love Ms. McCall. I stood up. "You guys go on. I've got to meet up with Derek." I said. Alison stood up and hugged me. "Thank you so much." She whispered. I smile at her and headed to the elevator.

I hated lying to her but I didn't want to see Isaac the way he was now. I'll see him when he's better.

Once the elevator doors were closed I called Derek. He answered on the second ring. "I'm coming to get you and we're going to Argent's place." He sounded angry. Oh great. What now? Is it really too much to ask for just one day of sleep and relaxation. "Okay? Will you grab my duffel bag and my keys then?" I asked a bit confused. Derek wasn't happy about something and I have a feeling that I'm not going to like it either. But since were going to Argent's place I might as well drop some stuff off.

"Which one? You have a lot." Derek sounded less angry now but it was still there. "The heaviest one. It has a lot of weapons in it." I told him as I walked out of the elevator. "Fine." He said and the phone went dead. Yep he was angry all right.

I waited only a few minutes before Derek's car screeched to a stop in front of the hospital. I looked around alarmed. No one was around to see his dangerously aggressive and alarmingly fast driving that, unfortunately, he learned from me. He had both hands clasped to the wheel and he was looking straight ahead.
