Chapter 32

An oni swung his sword toward my waist but I dropped down on my knees and slid under it. Aiden roared and slashed at the oni with his claws. It stumbled back and I spun around slashing his back with the claws on my feet. The oni turned around and swished his sword around as if to prepare to fight again or maybe regain his balance somehow.

I roared at it angrily. I felt my eyes burn hotter. The oni jabbed his sword at me but I turned away from it, crouching down. I kicked my leg out and swiped it under the oni making him fall on his back. He righted himself in no time. Before I could move fast enough, the oni's sword made contact with my body, making a gash from my right collar bone to my upper right arm. I roared in pain and stumbled back gripping my wound.

Derek caught what had happened. He roared at the oni who turned around. The oni ran and swung at Derek but he dodged the sword and went behind the oni. The oni stumbled toward me and I swung around and slashed his mask with my claws. He fall to the side with gashes in his mask.

"Where the hell are they?" Aiden yelled. Ethan knee one of them and threw him against the stairs. "The jeep's here. They have to be somewhere." Ethan yelled. The oni that Ethan had fought righted himself in no time. And the first thing he saw was me. I roared and the oni came at me. I ran at it and just before I could get to it I jumped up and became almost parallel to the ground, slashing the oni's mask with both feet. I landed in a crouch as the oni stumbled but didn't fall. "In the school!" Derek yelled after he got an oni out of the way.

The oni Derek had just thrown down the stairs got up and ran at me. Just before it could swung I grabbed its arm and twisted it around. I wanted his sword but I underestimated how much he wanted it. The oni flung his head back, making contact with mine. I fell back with black splotches in my vision. I saw the oni raise his sword but I couldn't move fast enough. I just knew I was done. Just as the oni brought down his sword he was thrown to the side. Aiden stood over me. He held out his hand for me and helped me to my feet.

An oni hit Derk and he fell against the stairs. The oni brought his sword down and I was about to scream but Derek grabbed its arm, keeping it from hitting him. Anger rose inside me. I ran at the oni and collided with it. Both he and I tumbled down the stairs.

"You have to get on the box. Someone get on the box!" Derek yelled from the stairs. I looked toward the box and two more oni appeared on either side of it. Since when do they multiply?

"I hate ninjas." Aiden said and roared. The oni swung their blades into position. Aiden walked toward them. Just before he could make a move. An oni swung his sword and hit Aiden in the back. He roared I pain.

I picked myself up off the ground. The oni I had collided into was now in front of me, blocking my way to Aiden. I show it my teeth and roared. It ran at me. I curled my toes so claws scrapped the sidewalk. I ran at it. Just as it swung its sword I rolled under it and ran after Aiden. He was on his knees and the oni was about to to slash him in half.

I flipped over Aiden and knocked the oni to the ground. I turned around. The other oni that had appeared beside the box was running up begins Aiden. "Duck!" I yelled. I turned around to give myself momentum. He ducked just in time before I kicked over his head and made deep slash marks in the oni's mask. I landed in a crouch and roared angrily.

Aiden got up and turned to face the oni who was one step ahead of him. The oni hit him in the mouth with the hilt of his sword. I looked behind me to see an oni just behind me. It wrapped its arm around my stomach and raised the sword to my throat.

"Eva!" Derek yelled terrified. The oni pressed the sword harder and pulled the sword across my throat. But just as he did I turned my head. It let go of me and I fell to the ground. I felt blood running out of the wound that lay on the base of my neck on the left side and onto the sidewalk. I laid still. The oni walked toward me. As best as I could tell he was just about me so I made my move.

I planted my hands down on the ground and pulled my body up into a handstand and twisted around, slashing at his throat. I landed on my feet and twisted around, kicking him in the face.

Ethan cried out in pain as an oni hit him with his sword. "We can't do this, we can't beat them." Aiden yelled. His mouth was bloody from where the oni had hit him."Take the box. We'll hold them off!" Ethan yelled. An oni came up behind him.

"Ethan!" I yelled. An oni swung at Ethna but Derek stopped them. He threw the oni down the stairs. The oni stood up and swung around his sword. Derek roared. The oni brought his sword forward but was stopped. An arrow was lodged in it's chest and bright golden yellow light was coming out from around it. We looked up toward the school. Chris was standing at the top of the stairs with a crossbow. Someome flipped down to us and landed in a crouch. Isaac.

The oni pulled out the arrow and disappeared into smoke. We looked up at Chris. "What was that?" Ethan asked amazed. He was still clutching his arm "Silver." Chris said with hatred in his voice. "Isaac, the box! Get the triskele box to Scott!" Derek yelled. Isaac ran and grabbed the box. I exhaled, relieved that we don't have to focus on the box.

The oni closest to me made the strange rattling sound and came at me with the sword. I roared. He jabbed his sword at me but I got dodged it. Before he could pull it back I grabbed the blade and yanked it out of his hands. The sword cut my hands but I didn't care. I grabbed the hilt of the sword and shoved if into the oni's abdomen and as I twisted the sword and in his face roared. I heard an arrow release and the oni disappeared.

I looked over to see that an oni was fighting Derek. It swung at Derk but he caught it's arm, went under it and pulled it's arm behind him. Chris fired an arrow. It stuck in the oni's chest and it disappeared into smoke. Chris fired at the final oni. It swung it's sword and cut the arrow in half away from it. "Get the arrow. It's the last one." Chris called down to us.

I looked over at Aiden who looked at me. I nodded. The oni ran at him but Aiden and I both ran at the oni. The oni swung at Aiden but I jumped on its back. Aiden slid under the blade and grabbed the arrow. The oni threw me off and brought the sword down on my back. I roared in pain. It turned around and swung it's sword as Aiden ran at it, arrow in hand. I remember it. The vision. This was the second that someone else died. "No!" I yelled as loud as I could. But it was too late. Aiden stabbed the oni with the arrow and it dissolved into smoke.

I watched as Aiden's blue eyes flickered and went out. Black blood dripped out of his mouth. The arrow hit the ground with a hollow clank. His hand rested on the sword that was all the way through him. He put his hand around the staff of the sword as black blood pored out of his mouth. "Aiden!" Ethan yelled helpless. Aiden pulled the sword out of his stomach and it clattered on the ground.

I got up and ran at him. I caught him before he could fall. I lowered him to the ground as tears burned my eyes. I held his hand and tried to take his pain away. Tears escaped my eyes when I realized what was happening. I looked up at Aiden.

Derek walked up to me and kneeled beside me and put his hand on Aiden's back to keep him up so he couldn't choke on his own blood. Tears streamed down my face. "I can't-" I sniffed and looked at Derek. "I can't take his pain." I whispered.

Chris walked Ethan to us. Ethan kneeled down next to Aiden on the other side of us. Tear fell down Aiden's face at the sight of his crying twin. Ethan rubbed his back.

"Does it hurt you as much as it hurts me?" Aiden asked. I closed my eyes and bit my lip to keep from sobbing. "Yeah." Ethan whispered. I opened my eyes and took a shaky breath. He tried to hold it back but he can't. Ethan cried and puts his forehead against his brother's.

Aiden pulled back and looked at Ethan. "It's okay." He said. Ethan takes in a shaky breath. "Lydia never believed I was one of the good guys anyway." Aiden said. I bit my lip again. Aiden may have tried to kill me several time. He may have succeeded once, but just minutes ago he saved my life. We had our fights and our anger; but he didn't deserve to die. Tonight Aiden was the hero of the story. He put his life in danger in order to save so many others. Truthfully, I never thought that he could do something like that. It just wasn't in his nature but he proved all of us wrong. Ethan shakily exhales. "She'll believe me." Derek promised. Aiden cries. Ethan puts his head against his brother's. Aiden strains to breath. "Shh." Ethan said. Aiden winced and struggled to breath. "Shh." Ethan said. Aiden closes his eyes and stops breathing. My chest twisted in pain. Ethan sobs. Derek slowly lowered Aiden to the ground. Ethan leans against his brother and cries on his chest.

Derek puts his arm around my waist and pulls me to my feet. I grab onto his shirt and closed my eyes as I leaned my head against his chest. He put his arms around me and I quietly cried against his chest.
