Chapter 65

Derek and I made our way into the school. Although I was still mad at him, we were on talking terms. Apparently, while I had been talking with ME at the sheriff station, Derek had learned some new information that we're going investigate. However, I wasn't too thrilled about this part of the plan. I was to be Derek's supernatural hearing. But before the plan could officially start, we needed to pick someone up first.

I stopped at the top of the starts and glanced at him. "Malia." Derek whispered. There was a pause. She didn't move. I shook my head at him. "Malia." He whispered again. I heard shuffling and nodded at him. Derek's state bore into my head. Supernatural abilities or not, Derek still knew when I was holding back.

Malia walked into view. She turned around and looked up the stairs where Derek and I stood. She narrowed her eyes at us. "What are you doing here?" Malia asked. Ooo, feel that? Apparently that Hale family love. "Brett's still out of it. I need to find his pack and warn them about the Dead Pool." Derek said. Derek had briefly introduced me to the werewolf Brett, or he showed me his body. Brett was still a little out of it by the time I got to the clinic when he called for back up. "So what do you need me for? You have her." Malia pointed out. I raised and eyebrow. Why did people always think I was the helpful? "I know a little something about this pack. They have a kind of secret meeting place in the woods." Derek said walking down the stairs. I stayed still. "No one's spent more time in the woods of Beacon Hills than you." He explained. Yep, both Malia and I were being used for Derek's diabolical plan. Kinda sucks.

"This is Brett's." Derek said and tossed the jersey at her. I could smell the werewolf all over that shirt. It was pretty strong. "Breathe it in." Derek said. She shook her head. "I'm not good at that yet." She protested. Oh come on. The girl was a coyote for eight years, or something like that. Didn't she ever use her nose. "Try it. We'll teach you. Focus on the different scents. Some are tied to identity. Others give off an emotion." Derek said as she smelled the jersey. She looked up at us. Terrific. Derek's plan, stage one complete.
