Chapter 100
"We got Kira's sword, but we need something with a stronger scent. Lydia went to get a jacket out of her locker." Malia told Derek. If I couldn't smell Kira on it, I would probably question if a sword could actually hold a scent. Metal is a tricky thing really. Stiles walked back into the garage. He didn't have to say anything, his body language talked for him.
"Nothing." He told us. If Lydia's not answering her phone something's up and Stiles knew that better than anyone. "If she has a car, she can catch up to us." Braeden pointed out. I glared at her. Peter pointed toward Braeden. "That's a good point. We'll call her from the road." Peter said. My glare focused in on him. How could he, of all people, think that we could spare Lydia? She may not have the physical strength to fight but she's important none the less. "No. What if something happened? What if she's in trouble?" Stiles asked. The last time she wouldn't answer her phone she had been kidnapped by the Nogitusune. Something about this gives me a weird feeling.
"Fine. You stay, you find her. We're gonna go on without you." Peter said and headed to the car. "No!" I yelled at him. I was so completely done. He was pissing me off. He stopped in his tracks. He was acting too sporadic to be worried about Scott. He was trying to cover up a certain body language but I couldn't figure out what. "You stay and you find her. We don't need you." I ordered rigidly. He narrowed his eyes at me. I smirked at him.
"I could call Mason. He has a study group at school. Maybe he could look for her." Liam said. Derek made one of his expressions. I slowly closed my eyes. Stiles sighed. "All right. Fine." Stiles agreed. He wasn't too happy about that and he wasn't bothering to cover it up. Peter headed toward Derek's car as we all went to our separate ways.
I headed toward the jeep. "Eva." Derek called. I turned around abruptly. "Can you ride in the car with us? We might need some werewolf strength to back us up." He motioned to Liam with his eyes. Scott's new beta on a full moon. Great. This should be a fun ride. I nodded.
"Remember what we're dealing with here." Peter said putting on his jacket. We all turned to look at him. "It's not just Kate, it's Berserkers. You might see human eyes behind those skulls. Do not assume that there is any humanity left." So much terror was flooding off of Liam I shivered to keep it off me.
"Oh. This little one is terrified of them, aren't you?" Peter asked mockingly. I stepped in front of him and growled viscously. Today is not the day and he knew that. Peter smiled at me. "Aw. Have you're maternal instincts finally kicked in? Took long enough." Peter said. I inhaled abruptly and was about to storm through Peter when Derek grabbed my wrist. I flashed a look at him that could have killed him. He immediately let me go.
"Don't worry, my friend. It is that fear that will keep you alive. A reminder to everyone. You do not fight Berserkers to survive, you fight to kill."
