Chapter 101
Derek and I handcuffed Liam as soon as possible. He didn't seem too opposed to the act. The sun was fading fast and we were running out of time. I had never really had to deal with newbies but from what Derek, Laura, and I had to go through, I wasn't too excited about the ride.
"All good?" Derek asked him. Liam pulled up on them. I'm not convinced. Any werewolf could break those easy. I shifted, uneasy. A looked flashed across Derek's eyes and I raised an eyebrow at him. He knew those handcuffs weren't going to hold. That's why he asked me to come. "Okay. I brought something to help you." Derek said pulling something out of his pocket. It was the damn triskelion. I had been all but forced to try to use that to gain control on a full moon but it had never worked for me.
"This has been in my family for centuries." Stiles narrows his eyes at Derek. I looked at him skeptically. Really? Don't lie to this poor boy to make yourself feel safer. "It's a very powerful supernatural talisman. We use it to teach Betas how to control thenselves on a full moon." Derek said. Yeah, sure. I believe you He handed it to Liam.
Derek looked at Stiles who looked at him questionably. Stiles knew exactly what it was and he was just as confused as I was. Derek glared at him and motioned to Liam with his head. "Yes, it's powerful." Stiles cleared his throat and looked at Derek. "Very powerful." Stiles said. I smirked and looked away. That was convincing.
The four of us were completely silent until dark. I had been still for so long that when Liam jerked back I also jumped on him. He breathed heavily. I took down to see the triskelion clutched into his hand with his claws. Oh damn.
"Whatever you were gonna teach me..." He looked up at Derek and his eyes glowed yellow. "I think you better start." He said his eyes stopped glowing. My senses jolted awake and my eyes burned blue. I closed my eyes and they stopped.
"Liam, you with me? We have a mantra that we use. You repeat it, you focus on the words. It's like meditating. You say the words until you feel control coming back to you." Derek said. Liam's heart was racing. He was covered in sweat. I hate shifting on a full moon. It's such a dramatic, mind bending experience. "Okay. Okay, Okay! What are the words?" He said quickly. He was determined. At least he had that on his side.
"Okay, look at the triskelion. See the symbol? I have a tattoo on my back. Eva has one on the back of her neck. It's the same thing. Each spiral means something." Derek told him. Funny, I forgot I had that tattoo. I had gotten it so long ago and it's not exactly like I have eyes back there. Stiles glanced at Derek. "Alpha, Beta, Omega." Stiles said. "It represents the idea that we can always rise to one an fall back to another. Betas can become Alphas." Derek said. "Alphas can become Betas." Stiles said. "Can Alphas become Omegas?" Liam asked. "Yes." I said. There may be hope yet for this boy. "All you have to is say the three words. And with each one, you tell yourself you're getting calmer, more in control. Go ahead." Derek nodded at him. Yeah, now I'm remember why this never worked with me.
"Alpha, Beta..." Liam forced out. "Slower." Derek interrupted. The body tingled with the unexplained adrenaline rushing through me. Liam took a deep breath. "Alpha... Beta... Omega." Liam said. He groaned. "Alpha... Beta... Omega." He repeated. He wasn't getting calmer. "Good. Say it again. Remember, every time you say the words, you're getting calmer." Derek coached him. This isn't working and Derek knew it.
"Alpha..." Oh no. His voice was changing. "Beta..." Stiles made a weird noise and put his feet up on the seat. "Omega." Liam struggled through. "Say it again." Derek ordered. "Derek, I don't think the powerful talisman of self-control is working." Stiles said. I looked at Stiles. "You think?" I snapped.
Liam breathed heavily. His eyes glowed yellow. "Ah!" He yelled showing his fangs. "Liam, say it again!" Derek yelled. "Ah!" Liam yelled and stood up, causing the entire van to shake. I lunged at him and he fell back to his seat. "Liam!" Derek yelled. He was thrashing everywhere and the van was going all over the place. Stiles and Derek held on for dear life as I tried to hold him down but I wasn't being very effective. I could use more of my strength on him but I didn't want to hurt him.
Liam growled and snapped the handcuffs. I flashed a glare at Derek. Handcuffs were pointless. He slashed out at me cutting across my collar bone. I grabbed his arm and held him down against the side of the van. "Derek?" Braeden called worried. "I think we're gonna need to go a little faster." Stiles called. Come on, Stiles. This isn't your first rodeo. Liam roared and snapped his other handcuffs, reaching out for Derek's throat. Derek grabbed his wrist and tried with all his strength to keep him off.
"Liam!" Derek yelled. Braeden was having trouble controlling the van. I grabbed Liam's arm that was reached out toward Derek. "Liam..." I yelled. "We're almost there." Braeden yelled at us. Liam lunged at Derek and I pulled him back.
"Keep focus!" Stiles yelled. Focus on what? The attacking werewolf? "Derek, I don't think Alpha, Beta, Omega is reasoning with him." I yelled at him. "You know any other mantras?" Derek yelled. I let my eyes glow and my teeth come out. I growled in Liam's face but he just growled back. God! How the hell am I supposed to be an alpha? I can't even make a simple beta listen to me. "Yeah. I do." Stiles said. My eyes flashed to him.
"Liam, Liam. What three things cannot long be hidden?" Stiles asked. Ug! Again with those damn riddles! Seriously? Liam looked at him. He turned back to Derek and growled. He lunged at Derek but I pulled him back against the van wall. He turned to me and snapped at my neck. I growled at him. He pulled me back and head butted me so hard I felt my skull crack. The force sent me backwards. I lost my grip on Liam and my back hit the chain separating Braeden from us. "Liam!" Stiles yelled. I looked up at them. My vision was blurry and I was having trouble focusing. Once I did, I realized both Stiles and Derek were trying to get him off of Derek.
"Liam, look at me. What three things cannot long be hidden?" Stiles yelled. I got up and lunged at Liam. It took everything I had to pull him back away from Derek just enough. "What three things?" Stiles asked. Liam turned and looked at Stiles. He grunted but this time it sounded more human.
"Sun...The moon.... The truth." Liam forced out. I could hear him becoming more and more human. "That's it. Say it again." Stikes said calmly. Liam grunted and pulled away from Derek slowly. "Sun... The moon... The truth." His eyes stopped glowing and his claws were gone.
"Derek?" Braeden asked concerned. "We're okay." He said. "Sun... Moon... The truth." Liam said. Stiles clapped Derek's arm. Liam looked up completely human and in control.
