Chapter 54
"It's pointless. We've been looking for a week and turned up nothing." Peter insisted. He was right. We've been looking for any signs of Kate for a week and she's nowhere to be found. It's like she just disappeared into thin air. "We have to keep looking." Derek insisted.
Things have been difficult between us. He's still angry that I hadn't told him everything when he first came back. He's not happy that I had regained my serial killer status. He had been treating me a little like a mental patient, like I was going to snap at any second. Which was getting on my nerves a little bit.
I'd slept on the couch for the past few days. Derek had insisted that if we weren't going to sleep together that I take the bed but I wouldn't let him. It had been my choice to not sleep together so he shouldn't have to take the couch.
Although Derek wasn't happy with me he kept telling me that he loved me. Like every five minutes. I know it's true but that still didn't resolve things enough for us to sleep in the same bed again.
"I don't know why you want to find her so bad. If she's gone. Good riddance." Peter argued. I glanced at Derek. And he was the one that was angry with me for not telling him things. He hadn't told Peter the reason we were tracking down the bitch.
"We have to find her." Derek insisted grabbing his jacket. I didn't move from where I was sitting on the desk. Even though Derek acted like he was leaving immediately, I knew this argument would go on for a while.
"No, I'm not going with you." Peter snapped. "It's pointless. We've searched every inch of Beacon Hills and found nothing. Not one thing." Derek huffed and turned around. "What do you want to do? See if someone else can find her?" Derek asked sarcastically. A single name popped into my head. Yes, why haven't I thought of that before. Eva, you are so slow. "Actually, I was thinking we could not find her at all." Peter said. Derek opened his mouth.
"Hey!" I called before he could say anything. Both of them turned to face me. "I know someone who could find her."
*******
Braeden put her feet up on the table. Peter looked at them annoyed. "The table's Italian." He said bluntly. I raised an eyebrow. Since when does he care? "So are these boots." She said. Derek smiled. I have to admit, I do like her sass.
"Are we going to talk interior design and fashion or are we going to talk numbers?" She asked. Peter hadn't been very happy when I told him that the person I had in mind would want money as probably a lot of it. I was sitting on the couch between Peter and Derek to keep them from arguing again. Derek was staring at a pair of sunglasses in his hands. Or should I say into the sunglasses.
I caught Braeden eyeing him. She then looked at Peter. Peter was writing down a number on a piece of paper. Personally, I really didn't care how much we pay her. Money has never been a big deal for me. My parents had money stashed well and I hadn't needed to get a job ever since they died because they had so much. Peter slides the pen and paper toward her. She takes the paper and looks at the number. She glances up at Peter and back down at the paper. She crosses out his number and writes a different one. She then slides the paper across the table back at him.
He turns the paper around and looks at it. "We're hiring you to find Kate, not assassinate the President." Peter argued. I smirked. Braeden had obviously been paid a lot of money, or at least offered a lot, before. She told me back in Mexico that she had been offered ten million for my head on a stick. "I was hired by the Calaveras to find Kate. You're hiring me to find her first. Going against the Calaveras is what's going to cost you." She said to Peter.
He writes a different number down. He puts the pen down more aggressively and slides it at her. She eyes him and slides the paper back. "Oh!" He exclaims as he gets up and walks away. I reach over and grab the paper. I hand it to Derek so he can do what he's been dying to ever since Peter and Braeden started to argue. He rips up the paper. "We'll pay." He said. Peter turns around abruptly. I try not to laugh. Peter was being such a drama queen. "Just find Kate, that's all we want." Derek said. She turns her head to the side.
"I'll be in touch." She said looking at me. I nodded as a thanks. Got got up and left the loft. Peter stomped across the loft. Derek put his hand on my knee and stood up. He walked toward the desk. I jumped wen Peter slammed the door behind her.
He put his hands on his hips, obviously furious. "Are you insane?!" He yelled at Derek. "We didn't have a choice." Derek said. He was leaning against the table facing away from Peter who was walking toward him. "We spent a week looking for her and came up with nothing." Derek pointed out. "If we don't find out who told Kate about the volt we don't get those bonds back. What do you think I'm gonna do then, huh?" Peter said walking toward Derek. "Get a job." He suggested sarcastically. Of he did that I probably wouldn't see him as often.... I'm for it! "My resume is slightly out of date." He was directly behind Derek by then. "We got robbed, Derek. Robbed!" He yelled and grabbed Derek's shoulder.
Derek grabbed his hand and spun around. He roared in his face. Showing his eyes. I exhaled and leaned back against the couch. "Oh that's a new look for you." Peter said. Derek was breathing heavily. He jerked his hand away. "What happened to your eyes?" Peter asked. "I don't know. But I'm willing to pay to find out."
