Chapter 26

I ran at one of them but just before I could make a move it evaporated into nothing. Something connected with the small of my back and I fell forward. I rolled over on my back just as the oni brought his sword down on my stomach. I cried out just before Derek roared in pain. The oni Alison was fighting wasn't putting in much effort. In fact, the only ones that were actually trying were the ones against me and Derek.

I growled and got up, ignoring the pain. The oni swung again but I ducked. However, the oni was too quick. It swung its sword and nicked me on my collar bone. I growled and swung at it but I missed. It jabbed the hilt of it's sword against the gash on my stomach. The impact and pain threw me back and I hit the floor.

I heard frantic foot steps coming toward us. I looked up to see Scott and Kira rushing into the loft. Alarmed, Chris and Stilinski raise their guns. The oni had disappeared.

Alison and Stilisnki were standing, clutching their weapons ad Chris and Derek kneeled beside each other. There was a big gash down Derek's left shoulder. I sat up slowly, clutching my stomach. Chris and Stilinski lowered their guns. All five of us were breathing heavy.

"What happened?" Scott demanded worried. Isn't it obvious? What thing in this town has sharp pointy stuff and doesn't leave a drop of blood? "They disappeared." Alison said a little scared. Scott came down the steps with Kira following him.

"They literally just vanished." Alison said. She was right. One second the oni is jabbing his sword at me and the next nothing. Stilisnki shook his head slightly. "And so did Stiles." I looked around. I had forgotten he had been here. I was so busy fighting that I forgot why we were here in the first place.

Chris stood up and helped Derek to his feet. He then walked over to me and helped me. I clutched my stomach and gritted my teeth. I knew I would heal but it hurt. Derek walked over to me and let me lean against him.

"They won't come back tonight." I said. Everyone looked at me. "They're after Stiles not us. As long as he's not with us, we won't see them." I explained. Chris nodded. "She's right." Everyone drew their eyes from me to him. "We all need to get some rest. We might as well do it now." Chris walked over to Alison. He put an arm around his daughter and they left.

Stilinski looked at Derek and me concerned. He took a step toward us. "It's okay." I reassured him. He stopped. "We'll heal." He stepped back and nodded. Just as Chris did, he turned and left.

Scott looked over at us. Derek nodded. Over the past year, Scott and Derek had developed a silent language. Derek's nod meant. "We're fine. Go home." Scott nodded. He took Kira's hand and lead her out.

Derek looked down and lightly touched my stomach. "I'm healing." I promised looking up into his eyes. "I know." He said quietly. I hesitantly touched his shoulder. He flinched a little but didn't say anything. "I'll heal." He said and looked down again. "I know." I whispered.

He put his arms around me and hugged me. I inhaled his scent and I calmed down. Somehow, no matter how dangerous the world around us is, I will never feel safe anywhere other than Derek's arms. If he had anything to do with it, he would never let anyone hurt me. Unfortunately, a lot of the time he had nothing to do with it.

Derek let me go and took my hand. He carefully lead me to the bed. I sat down on the edge and slowly laid down. I exhaled in relief and closed my eyes. It had been a long week, actually I have no idea what day it is. All of us were just living day to day. Not caring what our duties were. The Nogitsune was proving to be more and more difficult to handle. All of us had been in constant motion. It was good just to lay back and be still.

Derek on the other hand didn't want to be still. He busied himself with other things. He found me a shirt in the cluttered bathroom, which I had turned into my closet. He then grabbed himself a shirt and walked over to me. Derek handed me my shirt. He leaned over my body and kissed me. I sat up a little less painfully this time. I took off my bloody shirt and tossed it in the floor. I then pulled the shirt Derek had given me over my head.
