Chapter 37

After taking a long shower and properly disposing of my clothes and the bed sheets, I went to the animal clinic. I wasn't sure what I was going to talk to Deaton about or what I wanted him to tell me. All I knew was that from what I could tell, Derek was in Mexico. But were in Mexico I have no clue. It's not like I think that Deaton would be able to pin point where he is, Mexico's pretty big. I guess I just need to tell someone, other than Peter, that I'm close to figuring out where he is. And closer to bringing him home.

I turned off the engine and listened. I'm not sure why that was my first instinct but it was and I'm glad because Deaton wasn't in there at all. But the clinic wasn't empty.

"Okay, so how long has it been?" Stiles asked. Hearing his voice, I realize that I hadn't talked to Stiles since before he was possessed. It feels like so long ago that the Nogitsune was still hanging around here. "Weeks. He hasn't gotten back to any of my texts and neither had Eva." Scott said. It was true. I had gotten plenty if texts from Scott but somehow I was afraid that if I texted back he would know that something was up with me.

"Has Derek ever returned your texts?" Stiles asked skeptically. I smirked. Derek was horrible at returning calls and texts. He was also bad at hanging up the phone, but I think everyone knows that by now. "Once. Definitely once. But this time it felt different. So I went to the loft. The alarm was on. Everything looked okay. But then I found a lot of blood by the bed and I found these." There was a pause and then clanking metal. Who had turned the alarm on? Peter, I guess. I had never bothered to turn that stupid thing on. It was such a pain.

"So I sent a picture of it to Deaton. He said that it's the mark of a family of hunters based out of Mexico. The Calaveras." Scott said. Why would a family of hunters want me dead? The only hunters I had come in contact with were the Argents. "What would they want with Derek and Eva?" Lydia questioned. I had heard a third heartbeat but I wouldn't have guessed it was her's. I had assumed it would be someone else. Actually, I had assumed it was... Alison's. I swallowed and clenched the stealing wheel.

"You don't think they killed them, do you?" Stiles asked. I heard a bit of worry in his voice. Oh they tried, buddy. But like a lot of other people, failed considering I'm still up and about causing havoc. "I don't know." Scott said. There was a brief pause. "That's why you're here." He must be talking about Lydia. I don't know a lot about Banshees but Lydia has talent, there's no denying that. I heard something slide against a metal table. There was a slight pause and then metal rattling against itself. Then nothing. Then I heard metal falling down on a metal table. Then silence. I figured this is a good time to get out of my car. I pushed open the door and got out. I closed my door behind me and began to talk toward the clinic as I continued to listen in on their conversation.

"Lydia, what? Are they dead?" Stiles asked. I stopped in my tracks and held my breath. The thought had passed through my mind once or twice but I had gone on doing whatever I had been doing at the time. Derek couldn't be dead. But then again the hunters were obviously trying I kill me. "No." I exhaled relived at the sound of Lydia's voice. I inhaled sharply and forced myself to keep walking

"But I'm not sure they're alive either." Lydia said. I was about to stop again but I forced myself to keep going. Derek's alive. He has to be alive. I won't accept the fact that he's not. "What does that mean?" Scott asked. He has a point. I would understand if she was talking about me. I'm not supposed to be alive but Derek? "I don't know. There's something not right. I just... I don't know." Lydia said. I pulled open the door of the clinic quietly and walked in. I followed the sound of heartbeats.

"So if the Calaveras have him, how do we find them?" Stiles asked. I turned the corner and walked in the room. Lydia and Stiles looked at me wide eyed. Scott looked up at them and seeing the look on their faces turned around. "Mexico." I said. "They're in Mexico."

Everyone was looking at me like they had seen a ghost. "Eva?" Scott finally said. I rolled my eyes and walked toward them. "Yes, dumbass. I'm real." My voice was lace with a dangerous amount of attitude. Would he be able to tell that I had more power than I did since the last time I saw him? Would he be able to tell I've been killing again? I shook the idea off.

"Where the hell have you been?" Scott demanded. I guess he couldn't tell, otherwise that would be the first thing that came out of his smart mouth. I shrugged and forced my heart to steady. "Looking for Derek, same as you." I lied. Scott looked me over. Oh no, could he tell I just lied? "And you found him?" Stiles asked. I tore my eyes from Scott's and looked over at Stiles and Lydia. I inhaled deeply. "Well, not exactly." The three of them looked at me confused. Oh good, Scott couldn't tell.

"What-What does that mean?" Stiles asked. Everyone was getting more and more confused my the second. "I didn't actually find him. I had a vision of were he was." I explained. The three of them looked at me like I was crazy. "You had a vision?" Lydia asked with attitude in her voice. I looked over at her. Lord, I miss that girl. "It's a new found talent that I've discovered. To save you from the profoundly boring details I'll cut to the chase. I know Derek's being kept in Mexico but I don't know where in Mexico." I turned to Scott. "Did Deaton tell you were these hunters come from?" I asked him. He continued to stare at me for a few seconds. "No but I can asked." He said pulling out his phone. I nodded. "Ask him if he has any details about them. Whether they seem significant or not." I said. He dialed Deaton's number. He answered after three rings.

"Scott?" Deaton said. "Eva found out that Derek's in Mexico but we don't know where. Can you tell us anything about the hunters that we need to know?" Scott asked. I caught Lydia looking at me strange out of the corner of my eyes. I looked at her and raised an eyebrow. "What is it?" I asked gently. She cocked her head a little bit. "You seem... different." She said skeptically. I had to play it cool. I forced my heart to stay steady. "Almost dying again will do that to someone." I said casually. She gave me a weird look then turned toward Scott.

"Okay. Deaton knows where they live. He also said that tomorrow would be our best bet at getting to them. Something about tomorrow night's moon. They're having a party. We can get in but only if we have their mark on some sort of paper. He's heard before that we might be able to negotiate something and we could buy Derek back. So were going to need money and apparently a lot of it." Scott explained. "I can get it." Lydia piped up. Scott gave her a grateful look.

Stiles looked at him like he was missing something. "What are we supposed to tell our parents? That we're going across the boarder to rescue our friend who was kidnapped by hunters?" Stiles asked. The three of them looked at me. I rolled my eyes. "Just tell your parents that we're going camping or something." I said. It was kind of true, I guess.

"How soon do we need to leave?" I asked Scott. "The party's tomorrow night. So we need to leave soon. Like in an hour or two. Stiles can we use your jeep?" Scott said. Stiles nodded. "Okay so Stiles and I will pick everyone up in about two hours. Pack sometime to wear to a party but don't bring a lot. Stiles and I will get what we need to get into the party. Lydia's got the money. Everyone good with this?" Scott asked. We all looked at each other as if to expect someone to say no. We then turned to Scott and nodded.

I looked around at the three of them. "Saddle up, pack. We're about to rescue ourselves a werewolf."
