Chapter 44
Braeden fired over and over again. We kept backing up away from it. Is was so dark and the thing was so fast that we couldn't see it. The growling was persistent and like no other I had ever heard before. It was so extremely animalistic and rabid but not the kind of rabid growl a werewolf makes. This wasn't angry. It just sounded savage and blood thirsty.
"Where is it? Did you see it?" Braeden demanded frantically. I looked around frantically. "No, I don't know! I can't see anything!" Scott yelled. It was so dark down here. And whatever it was was fast. Really, really fast.
Braeden reloaded her gun. "Where is this thing?" She asked looking around. I heard running footsteps. "It's coming back." I warned. It roared at us. I felt a weird pull when I heard it. Whatever this was it wasn't a normal supernatural. If there is such a thing. Braeden's eyes widened. "Scott, Eva, get behind me." She whispered. Scott looked up. I was already beside her. "Scott, get behind me!" She yelled. I knew that look. I had seen it many times before.
"Roar." I whispered. Scott stood his ground. Braeden had her gun ready. She glanced at Scott. I felt it coming before I heard it. He let out the roar of an alpha. Braeden ducked and covered her ears. I gasped and fell to my knees. I clutched my head and writhed on the ground. Dirt fell all around us from the ceilings and the walls. I was shifting. I might be a crazy, power stealing werewolf but Scott was my alpha. I felt my eyes burn. My eyes weren't just blue. Scott's roar had broken the wall that I had used to contain the red part of my eyes. I fought as hard as I could against him. They can't see my eyes. No one can see my eyes. It's too dangerous. When he stopped I exhaled in relief. My eyes went back to normal and I was able to stand up. There was growling in the distance but it was getting further away.
Scott turned to us. "I think I scared it." He said. I started at him with a 'no duh, dumbass' look. "I think you scared everything." Braeden said. Rock crumbled behind us and we turned around.
"What is that?" Scott asked. There seemed to be a hidden room. On the wall facing us was a giant seal. Scott picked up the flashlight and we walked toward it. We ducked into the room. "Tezcatlipoca. The nagual jaguar god." Braeden said. She dusted some dust off the seal. She looked back at us. "I think we found Derek." She said. Derek was behind that? How had Kate stuff him back there? Scott dropped the flashlight and put his ear to the seal but I didn't have to. I could hear his heartbeat. Heartbeats are kind of like finger prints. They seem to be the same on everyone until you look a little closer. Everyone has their own unique heartbeat. That's how I was a hundred percent sure it was Derek behind there. I had fallen asleep and calmed down to that heartbeat hundreds of times before.
Scott stood up looking at the seal. He formed a fist and looked back at Braeden and me. "Stand back." He warned. She look a step back and looked at him but I didn't move. Personally, I really didn't care if I got hit or not. I was this close to Derek and I wasn't about to get any farther away now. Scott punched a whole in the seal. I immediately went in and started to tear apart the wall with him. Scott, Braden and I kneeled down. She grabbed the flashlight and shone the light into the hole.
I saw his hand first, reaching out toward us. Then his face. He looked into my eyes pleading. I gasped I really looked at his face. "Oh, my God." Scott whispered.
