Chapter 46

The ride back to Beacon Hills was strange to say the least. The car was packed full of all kinds of emotions that were bouncing all over the place and ending up in me. I was so completely overwhelmed by everything for about two or three hours. But right now, I'm completely numb.

Everything was hitting me at once. Alison is dead. Aiden is dead. Boyd and Erica are dead. I had killed seven people in the last two months. My eyes are turning red. I see things that were only meant for dead people to see. Kate was never dead. Derek has been stuff in a seal wrapped in wolvesbane for the last two months. Derek is a teenager again. My life has gone to hell and there's no going back.

Once we finally got back to Beacon Hills we dropped off Kira and Malia before rushing to the animal clinic. Somewhere in this huge mess, Scott called Deaton and informed him that we had found Derek and he needed medical attention. He conveniently left out the part that Derek had found a remarkable anti-aging solution while he was missing.

Scott, Lydia and I sat in the backseat as Stiles drove recklessly through the pouring rain with Derek at his side. A very unconscious Derek. He had been unresponsive for ninety nine percent of the time. That one percent consisted of him lifting his head up to look at Stiles back in Mexico. Of course, there was the big to do about how we need to get Derek warm because he could have frozen a gallon of water by just touching it he was so cold. So Lydia and I then tried to wrap Unconscious Derek up a blanket, which is a lot harder than you would think. Derek may be sixteen sized now but he was still close to twice my size.

Once we got to the animal clinic I finally snapped out of my unresponsive mode. I stayed in the car with Derek while Scott, Stiles and Lydia went in. He was still unconscious and I imagine he will remains so for a while

If I was in my right mind I probably would be talking to him. But right now vaguely brain dead, cold, tired and shoeless. I hadn't changed my clothes after the party so I'm still wearing my very reviewing outfit and I hadn't bothered to get shoes when we got back in the car.

This is the split second in the movies where hero gives up. This was my split second. I wanted to break down and cry. I want to stop fighting everything that comes my way. I wanted to be the weak damsel in distress that her night and shining armor comes to save. But I had to suck it up and keep going. Mainly because I had accepted this life long ago. This is where the saying 'you made your bed now you have to sleep in it' comes into play. And I will gladly do so once I get to my bed. But a part of my having to suck it up is my knight and shining armor is currently in a bind, so he can't save me right now. Maybe later.

Scott came running out of the clinic into the poring rain. He opened the passenger side door and got Derek. He carried him over his shoulder as I crawled over the seat and followed Scott. I opened the door for Scott as we hurried as quickly as we could.

Once we got in, Deaton cleared a table and we all helped get Derek on it. Deaton looked at him. "Wow." He said. I closed my eyes. Deaton never says wow. "Wow? Stiles asked looking at Deaton. This is defiantly not good. "Wow as in, 'I've seen this before and I know exactly what to do,' kid of wow? Cause that's the kid of wow we were hoping for." Stiles asked. Unfortunately nothing is that simple anymore. Nothing will ever be that simple ever again!

Deaton looked at him. "I think you might be overestimating my abilities." Deaton said. I took Derek's hand. "He's cold." I said. Lydia put her hand over his. "Really cold." She said alarmed. Deaton looked at us and then took Derek's wrist. He let it go. "Do you think this is permanent?" Scott asked. I looked at him alarmed. Permanent? This can't be permanent.

Deaton took out a flashlight out. He opened Derek's eye and shined the flashlight in it. Deaton shook his head. "I'm not sure a medical diagnosis is even adequate." Deton said checking his other eye. He looked up at Scott a bit overwhelmed. "This is well beyond my experience." He said trying to stay calm.

"So what do we do with him?" Stiles asked. "Until he wakes up? Probably not much. It might be best to leave him with me. He'll be safe here." Deaton said. The mountain ash would keep him safe but I don't feel so sure about that.

"You mean from Kate?" Stiles asked. My skin crawled at the sound of her name. "If she's alive and she is what you say she is, she won't be able to walk past that gate." Deaton said. "Why would she want to do this to him?" Lydia asked. Nothing good. I can bet my life on that. "Knowing Kate, it's probably for a reason that won't be any good for anyone but her." Deaton said. "And bad for everyone else." Stiles said. Deaton glanced at me for a second but I refused to make eye contact with him.

Stiles moved around his neck. "You guys should probably go home. He doesn't look to be in any danger. So maybe the rest of you should get some sleep? It is a school night... And you all need to start taking care of your own lives again." Deaton said. We all did look pretty bad. But I didn't have school. I wasn't going to leave Derek's side.

"Someone should stay with you." Scott said. I looked up at him. We made eye contact for a few seconds. "Someone of than just Eva." He added. "I'll stay." Lydia said looking at Scott. He looked at her and she shrugged. "My grades are fine... despite missing a few classes." Lydia said. The supernatural hadn't made Lydia's grades faulter. Which was a relief to me. Mine had a bit after I was turned. I had more to think about than getting straight A's all the time.

"I'm so not okay with this." Stiles said. I rolled my eyes. She looked at Stiles. "Guys, go." Lydia told them. "No." Stiles said standing still. He had no intentions of moving. "Text us if anything happens." Scott said. Lydia nodded. "Nope, still not okay with it." Stiles said as Scott walked toward him. Scott grabbed Stiles. "Not going anywhere." Stiles shoes squeaked as Scott dragged him. "All right, just cause you're stronger..." Stiles and Scott left. I couldn't help but smile.

It was little things like those two that helped keep me walking around. Our lives were screwed up but somehow those two still joked around.

And right now, I need something to help me. Because if I don't... I won't fight my next fight.
