Chapter 78
Light blinds me and the ground shakes. I feel a sharp pain in my abdomen as I'm impaled with a sword. We stare into each other's identical eyes. Pain washes over us as the sword is yanked out of her. Smoky people disappear. I look into her eyes as her voice echoes down the concrete tunnel. "Alison!"
I jolt awake.
I looked around nervously shaking. Sometime after the hospital incident I had gone back to the loft and crashed. I took a deep breath and tried to calm down. I had been dreaming about Alison's death every now and then since I saw it happen. More like I was being haunted by it.
When I looked beside me I was surprised to find that I was in bed alone. I sat up and looked across the room. I sighed. Derek had taken a pillow and was asleep on the couch.
I got out of bed and walked to the couch as quietly as I could. I'm not a hundred percent sure how dulled his abilities are so I'll be careful. I sat down on the table in front of the couch. I carefully lifted up his shirt, trying not to touch him. He had been shot yesterday when the assassin decided to meet us up at the hospital. The bullet wound on his side hadn't healed yet. His abilities had weakened much more than I though.
Derek grabbed my hands and I jumped in surprise. I huffed, angry. He looked down at my hands. "What are you doing?" Derek asked looking up at me. "Checking out your abs." I said casually. What the hell do you think? "Hmm." Derek said nodding. I sighed. "Why aren't you healing?" I asked. I was tired and I just wanted to get straight to the point. He looked down. "Some wounds take longer." He said giving me the generic explanation. I rolled my eyes. Don't give me that crap. "And some leave scars. But not for people like us." I snapped. He knows I'm not stupid. I don't really get what he's doing. "Really?" He said reaching out and touching the scars on my thigh. I grabbed his hand and looked him in the eye. "What's going on?" I demanded. We haven't had the best communication since he came back from Mexico and, truthfully, I'm not sure why. "Maybe I'm just tired." He said and turned over. I sighed and rolled my eyes.
"Derek. Show me your eyes." I told him. "You just saw them." He said not turning around. I huffed. "Show me your real eyes." I said. He turned back over on his back and stared at the ceiling. He huffed and looked at me.
"Okay." I said nodding. "Now, why don't you tell me what's really going on?"
