Chapter 63

Derek got in the driver's seat of his car. We sat in silence for a few seconds. I could practically feel what he was about to ask me. "You okay?" He asked. I exhaled. I knew it. "Please stop asking me that question. My answer isn't going to change." I said staring out the window. I've died before and every time it's more and more painful. And every time I'm more and more scared of dying.

"Eva." Derek said putting his hand over mine. "We'll figure this out. We always do." He reminded me. Not always. We didn't figure out everything. Alison and Aiden are dead. I looked at him. "The dead pool has been out a week, tops. Five people are dead. I was almost killed. This is bad, Derek. There will be more money handed out before we find out who's doing this. A lot more. Even if we do figure it out, not everyone will win. People have already lost." I said angrily. I stared out the windshield. Deaths have been taken too lightly around here. I have been taking deaths too lightly. Those are people lives. They have family and friends that they leave behind. Oh my God! How did I kill all those people? I'm a monster.

"Chris wants to talk with us." Derek said staring at his phone screen. I didn't say anything. He turned on the car, knowing I wasn't going to answer him. I closed my eyes.

Gun shots fired. Someone screamed. Growling and clashing. Lydia screamed.

I opened my eyes. It took me a second to realize where we were. We were in the school parking lot. "Eva?" Derek asked. My head snapped in his direction. His eyes widened. I glanced at the window. That's when I realized that my eyes were glowing. But this time they were different. My eyes were mostly red laced with blue. I blinked and they were gone.

Derek looked past me. I turned to see Chris waiting. I immediately got out of the car. I didn't want to talk about my changing eyes and what that might mean for my future or our future.

The three of us walked to the school sign. Derek flipped out his claws and unlocked the vault. The sign moved to the sign exposing a set of stairs.

Derek and Chris looked a each other. Derek then went down the stairs. Chris followed and I trailed after them.

Derek had found the triskelion but the time I got down the steps and joined them.

He turned around and held it out toward Chris. "She was here for this." Derek said. Kate. I had completely forgot about her, not that I'm sure how. Chris looked at him and then look the disk. He turned it over. "We use it to teach young betas how to control the shifts on a full moon." Derek said. They had tried it on me but it didn't work. Didn't work for Derek either. We found our own ways of learning control. "Control was never one of Kate's strengths." Cheis said and handed the disk back to Derek. He had a point. She was a hundred percent ruthless from what I remember.

"You knew she was alive, didn't you?" Derk asked taking the disk. I turned to Chris. "Not for certain." He said and looked at Derek then me. "But I'd been searching ever since you handed me the shotgun shell." I thought back to when the three of us had saved Aiden and Ethan in the woods. Chris pulled the shell out of his pocket. The Argent family mark was on the metal part of the shell. I should have known when he looked at it weird when Derek showed him.

"What are you gonna do when you find her?" Derek asked. Kill her hopefully. "There's a place I can take her." Chris said and walked toward to safe that had held the money that was now funding supernatural murders. Derek put the triakeleion back.

"You're saying you have some kind of werewolf jail?" I asked. How about a death penalty? He looked at me. "Something like that." Chris said. I huffed. The world would be better off it Kate Argent was dead. "She won't go quietly." Derek said. Chris shook head head. "I don't expect her to. And I'll do what's necessary." Chris said.

Derek sighed and walked closer to Cheis. "What if I asked you not to?" Derek said. What? Chris turned back toward him condused. After everything she did to him and he doesn't want her gone? "She took something from me." Derek said and showed his eyes. Golden. That's when it clicked. Derek hadn't told me everything. Chris walked closer with a confused look on his face. "At first, I just thought it was a part of my past." Derek paused. "I started to lose something else. My sense of smell. I'm losing my power." Derek said and his eyes went out.
