Can't Forget

Chapter 42

   BG thinks about what he wants to say but the words just don't seem to do justice to how he feels about JJ saying that she would marry him.  There is a picture of him, JJ and Nana and that's the one he wants to use but he wants everyone to know that this is the real deal and he used Nana's ring. Ben comes up and asks him what he is thinking about so hard. BG grins and tells him that he is about to make an announcement on social media and wants the words to be just right.
Ben gives him a questioning look and said show me the picture and maybe I can help. BG grinned and said no I got it now as he goes to typing on his phone.
"Nana always said I would know when I found my lifetime love like her and Pop. I'm so blessed that she said yes! @J2"
  He grins as he presses send and Ben checks his phone and looks at BG and said,"What the hell has happened that you and JJ are already engaged? Really bro? I missed a lot this last 2 months apparently."
   " We got together, finally told her how I loved her but was trying to be a better man and let her find her true love with someone good enough for her. JJ told me she loved me all those years ago but we both found out Amber had set out to keep us apart. It almost worked Ben I was gonna marry her cause I thought JJ hated me but I didn't know why. Truth is she went through some bad shit and has come out stronger tougher and is one kick ass woman now. We both decided to see where it went and well I knew that I loved her and all I can see is us together so Wednesday I sent her on a trip down memory lane in Jefferson and then asked her to marry me with Nana's ring. The thing is she knew it was Nana's ring and asked me was I sure about it. It fit her like it was made for her and in all honesty it was. My lifetime love would know how important that ring  was and what it stood for and she did was afraid at first. So I just want to tell the world that I am going to marry my best friend, the one who almost got away."
  Ben smiles," Its about damn time you two got your head out of your asses cause we all knew that y'all were meant to be together when she was the one who stood by you when you were out of control before you put the bottle down. I also know in the past 2 years you had been thinking more and more about picking it back up with Amber being around. She may be a great lady BG but she isn't for you. She wanted to change you and make you more pleasing to the world. JJ has always taken you like you are and that is a tell it like it is, be respectful to women and children and the elderly and never forget where you came from kind of guy. So do y'all have a date set?"
  "No we are just gonna wait till May to figure that out Ben cause she has to finish her school year and right now is working toward coaching her basketball team to a state championship. We were gonna keep it quiet so the media would leave her alone as they start their run at the end of the season but she said she didn't care if I told that she was and that she would deal with it. So the post this late tonight."
   BG phone is buzzing like crazy and they laugh. BG sees that he has a text message from Chase Rice.
   CR: Man I just want to tell you Congratulations on your engagement. JJ has been a good friend to me the past 2 years and you have too. I owe you an apology BG but I do want to say something. I did that cause I knew that you would take offense and that it might make you wake up and see what was right in front of your face. I had never seen JJ get drunk before so I knew that whatever caused it had to be big and it was. She was trying to forget you that night and to be honest I was willing to let her use me to do it. I knew that she didn't have feelings for me and that I was being a stand in for whoever it was she was trying to forget and I was okay with it. I thought that eventually I might have a chance. Then I saw the hurt and pain in her eyes when she said that you would be coming and I knew then it was over for me. She loved you and I played the asshole part cause I knew that you needed that kick in the ass to make sure she was happy. I knew exactly what would happen when I sent those roses and I was okay taking that beating if it meant that my friend would get her happily ever after. So Congratulations!

BG: Thanks man! I don't know what to say other than thanks! She is my whole world and I wasn't about to let someone else have her when I just got her back. We are cool Chase as long as you realize that I will not hesitate to beat your ass again if this is one kind of play for you. I mean it she is my lifetime love and since I figured it out I ain't letting her go.

CR: we are good brother, tell JJ I said Congratulations.

BG: you could tell her yourself

CR: Nah man, you tell her I will if we run across paths someday but I know that with what I done even though it was to help its best this way. But I will say, if you break her heart BG I will hurt you.

BG: Gotcha man and I won't break her heart I love her too damn much

JJ's phone is blowing up with notifications and texts from her friends telling her congratulations on her engagement. Of course there are some haters in the bunch but that comes with anything when you have a celebrity involved. It doesn't bother JJ at all. She repliesm back to BG's post @BGilbert My lifetime love can hardly wait to do forever with you!
