Can't Forget

Chapter 79

JJ smiles as she looks around the kids had done an amazing job with the decorations for Prom. Now to just get this night over with and then she would be on her way to start her new life with Brantley. When she told everyone this week that she was going ahead and leaving they were sad but happy for her at the same time. She checks her watch and goes to open the doors and let the kids and parents in so they can start taking pictures.
  JJ is standing with Lana and they are signing people in when Holly comes in with her date Avery. JJ smiles and tells her that they look great. Holly told her that she looked like she should be going to Prom and that BG would be all in protective mode if he were here with the looks that she was getting from all the guys. JJ laughs and tells her that he hated going to Prom with her but refused to let anyone else take her cause they " would be up to no good" so that is how he went with me. Holly laughed and said," Well Coach he would be be like that tonight cause you look great"
  Oakley and Kolby came in next and JJ smiled and hugged him. She whispered " you have made her so happy by coming with her. She needed to know that what is important to her is important to you. By the way you looks sharp"
Oakley said," Coach Jax you look hot! BG would definitely be throwing you over his shoulder and taking you out the door if he was here."
JJ laughed and said," thanks Oak I was a little worried about what to wear as I have packed most everything else up."
"Well you look hot and I guess it's a good thing that he isn't here cause he would definitely punch some folks for looking at you like they are."
Kolby looks at JJ and said," Sis you do look hot and she's right my brother would have a fit with the looks you are getting so I am gonna keep a lookout."
JJ looks at Ko and said," your eyes better be focused solely on your date and hers on you cause I am a big girl and can take care of myself so y'all go have fun."
  Jake came in and JJ smiles and tells him," all the girls will be wanting to dance with you tonight all dressed up. You look handsome Jake."
  " Coach J thanks and I have to say that you look very pretty tonight. I need to ask a favor of you though for tonight"
"What is it Jake?"
" Well the first dance is always the parent/ child dance and then it goes to dates but since I don't have either I was wondering if you would do the parent/ child dance with me?"
  JJ feels the tears form and she hugs Jake and tells him ," I will be honored to do the parent/ child dance with you." Jake smiles and head to his friends. Lana looks at JJ and said," he's made it because you cared. You have made such a difference in his life JJ."
  JJ shakes her head and said," no he made a difference in my life"
  The DJ gets everyone's attention and said it was time for the group pictures. They did the senior class, junior class, teachers, and then all sports teams with their coach. He then tells them it's time for the Senior walk out and then the first dance. As they do the walk out it was lots of fun and laughs. Jake comes over and asks," may I have this dance?" JJ smiles and takes his hand and lets him lead her to the floor by Kolby and Oakley. Kolby looks at Jake and does the I've got my eyes on you and Jake laughs and Kolby laughs and gives him a high five. Jake places a hand on her waist and takes her other hand in his as the song "I Hope You Dance" plays.  Jake takes this time to say," Coach because of you I have stuck with school and I am going to graduate but what I haven't told you is that I have applied and been accepted at Georgia. So I am going to be moving to Athens as soon as I graduate. You believed in me and that made me believe in myself and want to make my momma proud. So thank you for looking past the tough and rough exterior I put up here at school to see that I was just a kid who was hurting because his world was being torn upside down."
JJ is crying and she tells him," I am so proud of you Jake! You chose to make the best of a very bad situation instead of thinking that life was treating you bad and giving up. I may be leaving tonight but I am just a phone call away you know that right. I will always be there for you. I will be back at graduation to see you walk across that stage and not just me but your momma will be watching too. Now enough crying you need to have a good time and enjoy these moments with your friends"
   As the song comes to an end Jake's eyes get wide and JJ hears," son I'm gonna ask you one time what do you think you are doing dancing with my woman?" JJ turns and she sees her handsome husband dressed in a black suit with his mean mug face on. Jake said," BG I asked her to stand in for the parent/ child dance since she had been a mom to me this last year and I didn't have a date, but I kept my distance and only danced with her properly."
BG grins," I know son I have been here since the start of the song and I thought I would just mess with you a little. Now why were you crying?"
JJ said," cause Jake just informed me that he applied and was accepted to Georgia and was moving to Athens as soon as he graduated." BG smiled and said," Congratulations" and then he said," do you have a place to live and what are you gonna do till school starts"
  "No sir I don't I plan to start looking for a job and save the money and find a place to stay until I can."
  "I have a better idea Jake why don't you work for me and stay at my house till you can get in the dorms when school starts. JJ and I will be on tour and it will help you and me. Besides we have plenty of room even when we are home"
  Jake just stares at BG and said," I don't want to take advantage of my relationship with your wife. I am not asking for charity or a handout."
BG smiled," Son I understand that and I appreciate it but I am serious about having you work for me. We always need help on tour with extra hands and I can always use help on the farm and at my place in Georgia. I ain't giving you a hand out just a job to make some money. As well as your taking advantage I don't think that at all. I told you once you made it to her circle you were there and well it's even harder to her in mine but standing up for her to your best friend well I owe you more than a job and a place to sleep. So after graduation do you want to be a roadie for me?"
"Yes sir I do thank you so much and I promise you won't regret it"
  Jake handed JJ over to BG and they danced and she said," you are full of surprises Mr Gilbert."
BG laughs," I am trying to keep you on your toes Mrs Gilbert besides I do believe I am your prom date forever."
"That you areBG"
They make their way to the teachers table and sit and watch the kids dance and have a great time. Mr Hayes comes up and tells JJ ," Coach Jax you and the kids did a great job with tonight. I am going to head on home but if you need me just call. Although it looks like you have your own personal security detail."
  JJ laughs," that I do and as you can see a lot of them are starting to leave. I will be in touch these next few weeks by phone or email if y'all need me."
  Mr Hayes said," we are going to miss you but I understand and we are all happy for you"
BG kisses her hair and pulls her closer to his side until the kids all pull her to the dance floor and she surprised them when she did the electric slide, the cha cha, then the wobble. When that song started BG made his way to her and he danced also. The kids had a blast when he got out there with her. Oakley and Holly said," we told y'all she could move and knew how to dance" JJ laughs and continues to dance and have fun with her husband and her kids knowing that tonight would be the last time they would all be together until graduation.
  BG watched JJ have fun with her kids and he knows that the roads they have traveled were meant to be so that these kids would know the love of his wife. Whether she realized it or not, she has changed lives for the better.
