Can't Forget

Chapter 75

    JJ wakes up knowing that she has to get ready for church but dreads it at the same time cause she knows that this evening she has to leave and go back to Alabama. She has 8 weeks left of school before she can move completely to Georgia and be with BG all the time. She had been thinking more and more about just using her days she had built up and not go back. She knows that wouldn't be right to her girls. Besides she is the Junior Class sponsor and is responsible for Prom. She thinks about Grandaddy and having to say her earthly goodbye to him and she cries. She had not done that before now and she feels an arm come around her waist turning her.
    Brantley pulls her to his chest and said," let it all out baby, you have been my rock and I was wondering when you were gonna grieve for him. You know he thought of you as his own just like Pop. Do you realize that from the time you were 10 years old you owned the heart of not just me but my entire family?"
  JJ smiles through the tears," well that is a good thing to know because you and your family took my heart too baby. Now we have to get through in here cause we don't want to be late for church. "
   " No that is one thing we definitely don't want to be is late for church. But baby please know that you don't have to cry in the shower alone, let me hold you and take care of you like you did for me these past few days. "
  " I didn't set out to cry it just happened when I got to thinking about Grandaddy. I love you BG and I know you are there for me."
  " I love you too now I have to shower and you have to get out to finish getting ready."
JJ smiles as she steps out of the shower and pulls on her robe and wraps her hair up. She sits down and starts her makeup and as BG is getting his clothes on she asks," will you sing for me today at church?"
He stopped," it's been a while since I sung at church baby. What do you want me to sing?"
   JJ said," What do you think the one song that I love more than anything and so did Pop and Grandaddy, will you please sing Amazing Grace for me?"
  BG comes over and kisses her and said," you know I will do anything for you."

When they walk in to church they are greeted on every side. JJ tells Pastor that Brantley is going to sing Amazing Grace today. Pastor smiles and said," I was going to ask him if he would it has been too long since he sang here for us."
JJ smiled and made her way to their pew. She hugged Momma Becky and Ko and was a little surprised to see Oakley with Ko but happy at the same time. She focused on the service and she was thinking about how far they had come when she heard Pastor say," we have a special request today and I am so glad because we have missed his voice in this church. We hear him on the radio and love him and now I turn it over to Brantley."
BG makes his way to the front of the church and he straps on his guitar when he gets in front of the mic. He says," My wife asked me if I would sing her favorite song today in church and it just happens to be my granddaddy and Pops favorite and if I am honest because without God's Amazing Grace I know I wouldn't be here today." BG sings the song and it brings a hush to the crowd and as he finishes he looks around and sees tears in the eyes of so many and he knows that he did their favorite song justice. He is humbled by it and makes his way to sit next to JJ and she slips her hand in his and leans into him and she knows that everything is going to be okay.

After the service they head to Momma Becky's for lunch and enjoy their time together. The talk turns to the tour and how long they have until she moves back and JJ tells them she is gonna be moving stuff this weekend when she gets off of work and plans to do that along the way so there isn't much left to move at the end of May. She tells them she is babysitting Cam Saturday so Eli and Ash can have a getaway.
  BG tells her why don't she just pick Cam up and fly out to see him on tour and that way they can spend time with Cam and see each other at the same time. JJ smiles and said," I will see what Ash says but I don't think she will mind and Cam will be so excited."  They talk some more and say their goodbyes so JJ can get on the road to Alabama before it gets to late.

  As they load her explorer BG pulls her in close and said," Baby I love you and I am so glad that you have been here for me these past few days. I promise I will take you on a trip again to make up for the honey moon." 
JJ kissed him and said," you have nothing to make up for we said we would be there for the good and the bad and the sad times. I'm just glad that I get to fly out and see you on Friday with Cam. So it won't be so long with us being apart and I may just so that until school is out cause I can move what I have in one day if I can get some help."
BG smiles and said," baby I love how you think and let's just plan on that okay. Now as bad as I hate to see you go I want you to get on the road so you won't be late getting in tonight."
  " I love you BG"
"I love you JJ"
After a long sweet slow kiss he helps her in and closes the door and watches as she drives away and it kills him knowing that this is what she feels every time he left to go on the road.
