Kyle Wilson was unsaddling his horse when his foreman Greg walked up. Greg noticed the look on Kyle's face and said "What's up man?" Kyle sighed and said "I'm fine, just tired of doing all this on my own. I'm 35 years Old, I should be settled down by now with a good woman. The kids need a mom, one that actually wants them. Don't get me wrong i'm grateful to Katie for helping out but it's not the same. We live in a small town though, not sure where to go to meet women. It's been almost 3 years! But who would want to take on a ready made family, especially with Addie's condition?"Greg put his hand on Kyle's shoulder and said "I know how hard this is but maybe the answer is a mail order bride. Well an e-mail order bride anyway." Kyle laughed and said "Dude those don't exist anymore. What are we back in the old west?" Greg slapped his shoulder and said "Dating sites and personal ads are the same thing! Come on man, just go look online. You never know you might find someone amazing and they could be from anywhere!" Kyle shook his head and said "Maybe i'll look later on, right now though we have stalls to clean and that fence to fix and the tractor needs that part put on. Not to mention there is a hole in the chicken coop fence that needs to be repaired. The kids will be here in a couple hours too." Greg laughed and said "Man the work is never done."
While he worked Kyle thought about what Greg had said, was it possible there was someone out there that could love him and his kids? Someone who could accept the ranch life, and be able to adjust to being an instant mother. Someone who could deal with Addie's medical issues? She was smart and funny but some people were scared of her because she was different. Someone who could deal with the 2 hour trip to Dallas for her doctor appointments and medical needs. He figured it was worth a shot anyway even if it never amounted to anything.
Several hours later he walked into the house and had to grin when he heard the kids laughing. He greeted Katie who had made dinner and said "Katie I told you that you don't have to cook our dinner, you do enough for us." She laughed at him and said " Kyle you know I love you like a brother and those kids like my niece and nephew and because of that I don't want to subject them to your cooking more then I have to!" He laughed and said "Brat!" She grinned at him and said "Always will be. So what's with the serious look you've been carrying all day?" He grabbed a cup of coffee and joined her at the table. After several moments he sighed and said "I'm lonely Katie. The kids need a mom and I want a partner. It's been 3 years since Sarah left, Addie was a month old! She gave up all rights to them. My kids deserve the love of a mother. Greg suggested taking out a personal ad or joining one of those dating sites."
Katie said "Sounds like a good plan Kyle. What's the worse that could happen? No one reply?" He grunted and said "I could choose the wrong woman again." She laughed and said "Oh Kyle I think you learned your lesson there. You aren't young and stupid anymore. Just listen to your heart this time, not other parts of your body." He laughed a little and shook his head "I'm just not sure about this. How do you know the ads are real people? I've seen that show catfish." She said "I didn't know you watched tv! Seriously though you take the steps, e-mail, text, call, video chat, social media, etc. Just go on and look at some of the ads and see what you think before you place one. Trust yourself Kyle." He hugged her and said "Thanks Katie for listening. Now I bet that husband of your's would sure like his wife home. I have to drive into Dallas tomorrow with Addie so Ty will just go with me. Greg is handling the ranch tomorrow for me. Why don't you spend some time with Mike?" She laughed and said "Alright see you in a couple days then."
Kyle walked into the kids play room and Tyler looked up before rushing to hug him. Addie took a minute to look up then said "Hi Daddy." He smiled and said "Hi Baby Girl. Come Give Daddy a hug." He watched her slowly get up and walk over to him before hugging her and picking her up. He took Tyler's hand before heading back to the kitchen to serve up dinner. He listened to Tyler chatter while he helped Addie eat. He loved the time with his kids and they were his life. Addie had finally been able to start walking with the leg braces but she was still slow moving. He pushed all the thoughts and worries out of his mind as he concentrated on his time with his kids.
After the kids were in bed Kyle grabbed a beer out of the fridge, he never drank when the kids were awake and only drank a beer on occasion when they were sleeping. He started up his computer and googled dating sites, shaking his head as he clicked on the first one. He read some of the profiles and laughed at all the questions they asked. There was no way he was going to sign up for one of these sites. He decided to see if the personal ads were any better, so he clicked over to craigslist. He read several and thought this was the way to go. He could say what he wanted and not answer all those stupid questions. He wasn't forced to provide a picture and could send it to the responses he liked. He clicked on the post ad button and began writing.
Lonely Cowboy looking for something more....
I guess the title kind of describes me. I'm 35 years old and I own my own ranch in a small Texas town. I'm a single dad of two young children, one with medical needs. I'm not looking for something casual, I want something more. I rarely drink , and don't smoke or do drugs. I don't care for people who do drugs, smoke or have to drink all the time. I'm a country boy at heart and believe in being a southern gentleman. So if you're one of those women who is super independent and doesn't like her man to open doors and treat her like a lady then i'm not the guy for you. I would like someone who knows who she is, is sweet and loving, and has a sense of humor. Someone that loves children. I'm not looking for a city girl who can't stand the country, she would have to be good with being out in nature. If you think this could be you please e-mail me at LonelyCowboy@Gmail.com I'll send a picture through there.
Kyle posted the ad and then sighed. He still wasn't sure about this but Katie was right, what's the worse that could happen? He could always just not respond to the replies. Running his fingers through his hair he decided to head to bed since they had to get up early the next morning to make the trip to Dallas.
