        Rebecca called her boss and told him what happened, her boss was angry about it. She said "Look it's a family emergency! Call the hospital in Broken Bow if you don't believe me. Her name is Olivia Laramie." Her boss said "Rebecca we really can't spare you now." She shook her head and said " I'm going! It's my mother! You know I was taking off in two weeks anyway!" Her boss said "If you don't show up you will be let go Ms. Laramie." Rebecca said "I'm sorry you feel that way Mr. Larkin,  i've recorded this conversation so be aware if you lie about it I have proof. I did not abandon my job. I have a family emergency and will be contacting the board." With that she hung up and called the main hospital number to speak with the director of the hospital. After she spoke with them and told them what happened they assured her that it would be taken care of and offered her paid time off for family medical leave. She countered with the comment that she no longer felt comfortable working under Mr. Larkin and requested a settlement to end her position with them. The director said they understood and offered her all of her accumulated time off, FML and sick time plus a month salary. She agreed to that and the director said she would type up the agreement if Rebecca could be there in an hour, she would have the check cut as well.

      Rebecca pulled up her ticket information and called the airline, she moved her ticket to the 11 pm flight and started packing. She had her suitcase packed and ready to go, loaded up her cat after calling to make sure the cat daycare could take him and was out the door less than 45 minutes after talking to her sister. She dropped off Lucifer and explained why the change in plans and they told her not to worry. She walked into the hospital exactly 10 minutes later and went straight to the directors office. She glanced at the clock and noticed it was just before 8 pm. The director greeted her and apologized yet again. She asked Rebecca to send her a copy of the recording. Which she e-mailed to her while she waited and said "I've loved working here Ma'am, but this wasn't acceptable." The director agreed and showed her the papers that would complete her employment with them. After reading and signing the papers she turned over her badge and accepted the check. The director also handed her a sealed envelope with a written recommendation in it for any future employer. She grabbed her copy of the papers and the check and left St.Mary's for the last time.

      It took under an hour to complete her tasks at the hospital, she knew it would take time to get to the airport even though it was only a 20 minute drive. She made sure she had everything she needed before heading that way. She decided just to get dinner at the airport while she waited. She was actually smiling when she walked through the doors of the airport. She would be in Texas by 2 am. After getting through security she grabbed a bite to eat. It was 9 pm when she settled down to wait at her gate. She picked up her phone and called her sister. "Any update Alice?" Alice sounded tired when she said "Not yet they did see two breaks that are going to require surgery, they are doing another test to look at her hip now. When are you coming?" Rebecca sighed and said "I'm sitting at the airport now, my flight leaves in two hours. It will be the wee hours in the morning when I get there. I need to call the other airport and make sure theres a place to rent a car at two am... otherwise i'll have to take a cab." She said "I know you had a great day sis and i'm sorry I had to call with such bad news." Rebecca smiled and said "It's ok sis just try to rest while you wait, i'll see you soon. I love you, tell mom I love her too." She hung up and called the airport who informed her that their car rental place closed at midnight.

         Frowning she decided to call Kyle to let him know when she was coming in. He answered on the second ring and said "Hey Darlin' hows your mom?" She smiled as soon as he spoke and answered with a shaky voice "They found a couple breaks that are going to require surgery and they are looking at her hip now. I'm sitting at the airport now waiting on my flight. It leaves at 11 my time, and will land there at 2 am your time." He said "Something tells me there's more thats upsetting you. Want to talk about it?" She sighed and said "It's just been a long couple hours. Dealing with work and packing and booking flights." He said "Yeah so how did your boss take it? I know earlier they had said you couldn't take time off for a couple weeks." She laughed and said "Well not so good, he basically refused to let me go without firing me. Even though I have family medical leave time for such emergencies. But he's always an ass to the nurses that wouldn't date him. Anyway there were lots of things said, of course i'm smart enough to record conversations with him. I called the director of the hospital and let her know what happened and she apologized and offered me as much leave as I wanted. Since I know i'm planning to leave anyway, I told her I was no longer comfortable working under my supervisor and she offered a severance package of sort. Of course I had to sign papers saying I wouldn't seek legal action over the stuff said, not that I ever mentioned that or intended to. She also gave me a written recommendation to any hospital I wanted to apply at. So looks like i'm moving sooner then I planned."
