Tyler watched his feet as they stepped one in front of the other on the airport carpet. He was trying to be inconspicuous, he had wrapped his head in the hood of his sweatshirt to cover his face. Unfortunately with Awards and fame came recognition and a fan base that was sweet, but mildly obsessive.
He scuttled onto the plane just as they were closing the doors, clutching the crinkly paper bag holding Jenna's flowers.
It was strange to be without his piano and mic, without his red beanie, but most of all to be away from josh, who seemed to be as much a part of him as he was himself.
He quickly found his seat. It was in the middle of the airplane because that was the only thing left available at such short notice. He awkwardly sidestepped past the two people he was going to sit next to and perched himself in the window seat.
In the aisle seat sat a elderly woman snoring quietly. She was wearing a pail blue cardigan and her hands were resting on her stomach.
Next to him sat a teenage girl.
Her hair was deep dark brown, the color of warm hot chocolate. She was doodling away in a small sketchbook. Tyler looked closer and found that she was sketching someone he knew, Brendon Urie.
He tapped her on the shoulder, she took her earbud out and he could hear faint drum beats emanating from it.
" nice drawing! His forehead is a bit bigger in person though." Tyler commented, his mouth forming a kind smile.
The girls eyes widened as she glanced up at him. He saw so many emotions pass through their depths. Happiness, panic, fear, awkwardness, joy, and an underlying tone of sadness.
" you are Tyler Joseph." Was all she said. She, sounded like she was trying to convince herself of this, not Tyler.
"Yes."
She took a deep breath collecting her thoughts.
"You saved my life Tyler Robert Joseph.
I know that you must hear that a lot now that you get to meet fans at meet and greats. I can't tell you how many Nights I've fallen asleep just thinking about what I would say, what I could say if I ever met you. Your music is so intertwined with my life. The way I talk, think, act... everything. You are the one that always understood. Your music is my happy place. I put in my headphones and hide behind my hair and for the length of a song I can feel the weight of the world lifted off my shoulders. You were given the gift of changing the world, and I couldn't think of a better person to have that gift. You've been though it all, and knowing that gives me comfort as I battle my way through the journey of depression. Yeah, I have depression and it takes a toll on my life, but I wouldn't be the person I am without it. Slowly I'm boxing it away were it won't hurt me, it'll just stay as a constant memory of what I've been through and why I'm the person I am. And you Tyler, you are the one person who has kept me going, so thank you, thank you for changing my mind when I thought of death, for shaping me into the best person I could possibly be."
Tyler had listened in absolute quiet. His hands were folded in his lab, his eyes fixed on them. The stream of words had seceded, and slowly he looked up to meet her eyes.
There in those dark brown orbs was nervousness, but much more than that, the emotion of relief.
" no thank you. Saying something like that takes so much courage and I admire your bravery. Hearing things like that gives me the will to keep going, keep writing music, keep singing. You friend, and everyone like you mean more to me than you will ever think."
A small tear seeped out of her eye and traced its way slowly down the curve of her cheekbone.
" hey, hey... don't cry." He shushed gently, folding his arms around the small girl. She buried her head in his shoulder and let the tears come. Tyler didn't mind that his shirt would have a wet spot, and he didn't dare move for fear of breaking this moment. For this moment he was just a boy who had helped someone, not some famous singer. The last of his puffed up stage persona drifted off like the clouds passing outside the planes window. He gently stroked the hair of the girl, and slowly she fell asleep.
Tyler let out a small sigh, and settled down himself. He shifted the girl so her head rested on his shoulder, and pulled out his phone And headphones.
Some artists barely listened to their music, but Tyler did. He gazed out the small oval window, watching as the pastel tinted clouds sped past bellow him.Hey, hey
wouldn't it be great great
If we could just lay down
And wake up in slowtown....
