I sat across from Riley at a Panera Bread barely touching the food she ordered for me. Her hair was more wavy and bright. Much more than my ugly burgundy hair. But hey, hair wise she's always had it going for her.
She stuffed her face and I sat there and watched in shock. She looked up at me with still vibrant green eyes. "What?" She said stuffed.
I looked at her. "Slow down, this won't be your last meal ya' know"
"You don't know that." She said putting her hair behind her ears while swallowing her meal whole. Riley was promoted to an Avenger 1 year ago, after 3 years of junior avengering. So basically she is a full time Avenger and doing wonders for this world. Don't worry, I'm not jealous.
Her life hasn't been all lilacs and sprinkles. For the past 4 years she's been pestered about her relationship status. The press wouldn't let up. During that first year she willingly let Shield test her so she wouldn't have to go back outside.
So to this day she is committed to her job. Like VERY committed. So committed, that I had to forcibly pull her away. I looked at her bruises on her hands and her custom made heels. In case she has to go quickly.
I checked my phone several times and sighed. "Why haven't you touched your food?" She asked folding her arms.
I looked at the door and Joshua walked in. Riley narrowed her eyes she followed my gazed. "You son of a bitch."
"You need to have something in your life other than fighting."
"Marcus I don't want another boy-" She angrily whispered
"He could just be your best friend." I interupted.
"I don't want another best friend either. I just want to be left alone. Why won't you leave me alone?!" She started raising her voice.
"Because I love you and want to see you happy"
"I. Am. Happy." I watched as she mentally choked me with the glare in her eyes.
"Not as happy as you were when Sam was on Earth." She shut down for a moment and folded her arms. She looked away and pouted.
"Fine, lets just get this shit over with." I got up and let Josh sit. She forced a smile and shook his hand. She looked at me with hatred as she still smiled at Josh. How do you do that?
"Did she bail yet?" Nathan pondered as he slowly decended until he was hovering.
I looked around and did not see her speeding away. "She probably will later."
Nathan Coleson. Well technically Nathandriel Boltagon. This white haired ass hole is basically my best friend. Sure Riley and I could be twins with the way we know each other, but Nathan is always there for me. Not trashing on my sister, but she doesn't have testosterone so she'd never understand.
Nathan gave me a toothy grin. "Guess what?"
"No."
"I found out I was never meant to be on Earth. I was supposed to be royalty." He said ignoring my comment.
"If you became royalty, you'd destroy the planet."
"That is very true. BUT! My parents say they are leading a full fledged investigation upon it."
"Doubt they would find anything. It must have happened more than 20 years ago." I laughed
"I think I was three..."
"Then exactly 19 years ago." I said while receiving a call from Brooklyn.
"OOooo" Nathan cooed.
I picked up and she sighed. "Where the hell are you?"
"Speaker! Speaker! Speaker!" Nathan chanted.
"Do not put me on speaker phone" she snapped with authority.
"Marcus where are you?"
"I was having lunch with Riley..."
I could hear her eyes roll. "You are supposed to be working mister."
"I don't see any missions being assigned." I teased
"Oh yeah? I do have a mission for you two. Come meet me in my office."
-------
We arrived at her office in an out of breath manor. Brook glared at us. "How is little miss too cool for Shield?"
"Riley is shooken up but fine." I sighed. "Alright enough about Riley. I had my daily dose of sisterly love."
"Wow that's rude. " Nathan elbowed me.
"Well I have a job for you two."
"Oh? Thought it was a mission."
"No. Hush." She snapped. She opened a file and started reading.
"Oh yeah I forgot to mention I met Sylvia Bokman today." He whispered immediately distracting me from what Brooklyn was saying.
"Holy shit!" I exclaimed. Brook looked up and sighed and kept reading.
"Yeah Sylvia, I met her when I was walking down Kings Highway."
"What is she doing in Brooklyn?"
He shrugged. "I guess avoiding her friends in Manhattan."
"You two got that?"
"Yes ma'am" We said simultaneously. We walked out then stopped. "Wait......What....What was the mission?"
"Shit...." Nathan said turning around. We rock paper scissors to see who would have to go an ask. I chose rock while he had scissors. He cursed under his breath.
"Hello darling, my love, sweetheart?" He poked his head through.
"What?" She said tussling papers.
"We don't know the mission. At all."
"We're you not listening to me?"
"Sorry Marcus was telling me something super important." He lied.
"Prick!" I yelled facing them both.. "He's the one who was talking. Not me."
I could hear her throat clear as she inhaled. We both know what's coming next. She planted her hands on the desk and stood up.
"Get OUT!"
