Luke got to sleep at about three. I couldn’t sleep at all, so I just lay there, in Luke’s arms, laid on his chest. I just imagined what Luke would say if I told him. He would flip. So I just lay there.

“Charley” I heard someone whisper. I thought it was in my head, so ignored it. “Charley” The voice repeated and this time, I turned around. It was Calum.

“What do you want?” I said, in a slight rude tone, which wasn’t really intended. There was a three-second pause.

“How are you?” Calum, said, nervously. I sighed then bit my lip.

“I’m, I’m okay” I said, stuttering “You?”

“Uh” Calum said “I’m…Tired, goodnight” Calum spoke, really quietly, then I could hear him turn around on his side.

“Night” I responded.

Luke started to stir, and move around. I couldn’t sleep anyway, but now it was practically impossible. I sighed, quite loud actually, and tried to close my eyes. However, all I could picture was Luke’s face, his distraught little face, when I, if I, tell him about Calum.

“Shit” Luke said, startling me, and he jumped up.

“What’s up?” I said, after almost having a heart attack. I breathed in and out, staying calm again.

“Bad dream” Luke said, whispering “Sorry” He really did sound sorry.

“It’s ok, I can’t sleep” I sighed.

“Aw” Luke said “We can talk, if you-you want” He stuttered.

“Sure” I said “What about?”

“Uh, it’s technically Christmas” Shit I forgot “Merry Christmas”

“Oh yeah, Merry Christmas” I spoke quite shyly, and, to be honest, I just wanted to sleep. However, I knew Luke was awake now so there was no use in trying. Luke slipped his arm around me, and I swear I could feel his grin.

“When do you have to leave, for your aunties?” I spoke quietly and he bit his lip.

“Uh, I have to meet Mum at home at 11, so I have to leave here at 9, ‘cos I got a bit of packing left to do, not much like. She now I am staying at Mike’s” He moved his hair out of his face.

“Oh” I said “I’m really tired” I yawned. As long as I knew Luke would be protecting me, I could sleep.

“Oh, sorry, babe, yeah, I’ll let you sleep, sorry” Luke smiled, and said goodnight.

“Night” I said.

“Night” He said.

I stayed awake for about 20 more minutes, then felt myself blink. Then sleep eluded me…
