Their escape from the city was a success, but it was a long road to the ruin. While it really only was a day's journey, it was still a difficult day. Many Pokémon were getting in their way, wanting to fight and get stronger, and the path was broken and unkempt. It was really dangerous to put it simply. After finally getting there, the group waited at the entrance of the ruin for several hours, checking their items, getting more items in nearby areas, and training a bit before going in.
"So, I know I brought this up in the Ancient Keep, but we never really elaborated on it," Wave said to break the ice.
"Yeah? What is it?" Geek asked.
"We haven't really gotten to know each other all too well have we?" Wave pointed out.
Geek thought about it for a moment. They really hadn't. Besides a few Dungeons, the stories at night, and the one battle they had, they hadn't gotten closer as friends.
"No I guess not. Why don't we try now while we wait?" Volt suddenly suggested.
"Sounds good to me," Wave said as he sat down on the rocky boulder that guarded the entrance to the dungeon.
"So, what's your backstory?" Geek asked.
"What do you mean?" Wave asked back.
"Like, what's your history? How did you join the Explorers of Tomorrow?" Geek explained.
"It's heh, it's a long story," Wave said, somewhat blushing and scratching his head.
"Basically, my dad was a member of the team before me. Blastoise was one of the best. He was even Lucario's second hand, a place that Greninja and Gallade share. Blastoise was respected, and even loved by everyone in the team as a leader and fighter, but..." Wave trailed off, his thoughts wandering and his eyes zoning out.
"But...?" Volt urged on.
"But... not all stories last forever I guess. One day, Blastoise was on his way home from an adventure in a dungeon that some really bad Pokémon lured him into, and he vanished. He's been missing since," Wave said.
Geek and Volt went silent for a moment. Wave just looked off into the distance.
"Hey, I think I see everyone else," Wave suddenly piped up, standing up waving his arms in the air.
"Oh! They're over there!" Geek heard someone say from the forest.
A few moments later, Gallade, Greninja, and Marowak all burst out of the forest.
"Guys, you won't believe it!" Greninja said excited.
"What? What happened?" Volt asked, a hint of surprise in his voice at how happy they looked.
"The Haunter left! Lucario was going around town when he realized that they were gone!" Gallade explained.
"Really? Awesome!" Wave shouted from above the rock.
"Hey uh, do you guys think you could move this? The dungeon is behind it," Wave explained.
"Oh please," Gallade chuckled as he popped his neck, "Rocks are my specialty."
Wave jumped off and landed next to Geek, who stared in awe as Gallade walked up to the rock, charged up his fist, and smashed the massive boulder to millions of pieces. He looked back to the group with a huge grin.
"After you."
