Kiss and make up

Nick's POV

I thought about calling Rebecca, to ask her to come over.
But did I want to?
Rebecca was nice, but she was a bit boring.

I was starting to get bored of our relationship actually.

I heard a knock on the door at that moment so I got up from the sofa to answer it.
When I opened the door, it was Katherine.
'Oh, erm.. Katherine, hi. Are you okay?' I asked awkwardly. 

The last time we'd spoke, we argued. It made me feel really awful. 

'No! No, I'm not okay Nick!' She burst into tears.
'Come in.' I moved aside to let her in.
I lead her into the living room and sat down next to her. I put a hand on her back to comfort her. 'Tell me.' I said gently. But I had an idea of what was wrong.

'He cheated on me Nick. The bastard cheated on me!' She burst into a fresh flood of tears.
I was sympathetic of course, but not surprised. It was bound to happen, Hoffman was a player.

'I'm so sorry K.' I hugged her and she sobbed onto my shoulder.

'I told him I'd tell Jess what he was really like, and he threatened to tell people that I paid him to have sex with me if I said anything. Then he called me a desperate opportunistic whore.' She explained.

'What?' Now I was pissed off. 'He called you what? That bastard! I'm gonna kill him!'

'No, please don't Nick. You'll only make it worse.' She said. 'I can't believe I was such an idiot.'

'Well yeah, I told-'

'Did you know that "I told you so" has got a brother Nick? He's called "shut the hell up".' She glared at me through a haze of tears. 

I laughed. Eventually she managed to smile. 

She leaned against me and I put my arms around her. 

'Oh Katherine. What am I gonna do with you, eh?' I sighed. 'Can I be bluntly harsh with you?' 

'Go ahead. Everyone else has lately.' She sighed too. 

'Katherine, you're a nice girl. You're intelligent, beautiful, kind, fun and feisty.' 

'Is this the harsh part?' She smiled up at me. 

'I'm getting to that.' I said. 'Those are the good things about you K. But you're also very naive. And trusting. You heard Daniel's warning and mine. Yet you chose not to listen to us. You listened to yourself and let yourself trust Hoffman, despite what you heard about him. I think maybe you just need to balance out your trust when it comes to certain people. Do you get what I'm talking about?' 

'Yes, I understand.' She rolled her eyes. 'Grow up Katherine. That's basically what you meant, right?'

'Well, less harsh than that.' I winced. 'But yeah. You're beautiful and kind Katherine, and you've obviously got a brilliant mind. But you act like a kid sometimes.'

'I'm sorry I didn't listen to you.' She said. 'And for everything else I said.'

'It's alright, I forgive you.' I grinned.

She looked into my eyes for a few moments. And I looked back into hers. They were a really pretty blue, like the sky.
She surprised me when she leaned in and kissed me.
I recovered quickly from the shock and kissed her back.
It was a slow, pressed up, mouths working, meaningful kiss.

And very passionate.

When we eventually broke apart, I looked at her in surprise.
There was silence as we got our breath back.
'Erm,' I eventually found my voice. 'I thought you weren't interested in me.'

'What made you think that?' She frowned.

'Well, Daniel told me you didn't date...'

'Yes, I thought I didn't date. But that doesn't mean I wasn't interested in you, idiot.' She nudged me with her elbow.

I smiled. 'Well that's alright then. Because I'm also interested in you Katherine Victoria Jasmine Calvin.' I kissed her again and she happily reciprocated. 

Her phone bleeped, so we broke apart.
She looked at the text on her phone. Her face fell. 'My mum wants me back.'

'Okay, I'll see you tomorrow, yeah?' I replied.

'Oh, we've college tomorrow!' She remembered. 'Okay. See you Nick.'

'Bye.' I said.

When she left, I had a short think.
I loved Katherine. She was amazing. Beautiful, smart and kind, and feisty.
I liked Rebecca. She was pretty, kind, ordinary and sweet.

So which girl would I choose?
I didn't need to think any further than that.
I knew exactly who I'd choose.
