Katherine's POV
Wednesday
9:23am
I walked to Business as normal. Well, not exactly. My cousin, Jemma had given a load of clothes to me that she didn't want. They were all practically brand new and Jemma wore some pretty outrageous stuff that showed a lot of skin.
Today, I was wearing a royal blue floral crop top with angel sleeves, some skinny jeans and some blue flat shoes. The look was completed by some blue tinted shades, a blue handbag and gold band-bracelet. I'd braided my hair the night before so it now resembled gentle waves.
This wasn't my usual style though and I could feel everyone's eyes on me, making me feel self conscious.
One guy even walked into some lockers because he was too busy staring at me instead of very looking where he was going.
Wow, I sure am attracting a lot of attention, I thought in amazement. Before, I was invisible to everyone. I was just nerdy Katherine who sat at the back of the class quietly.
What changed? Jeez, I'd only changed my style a bit! Some people really needed to get a life.
I suddenly heard a whistle behind me. Then:
'Wow K, look at you!'
I turned around. 'Shut up Danny.' I shook my head in bemusement.
'You look great.' Joe grinned as I joined the group.
'Thanks.' I blushed. 'My cousin Jemma came over yesterday while we were at school, and left me some clothes.' I explained. 'I'm only wearing them to be polite.'
'You should more often K, you're attracting a lot of attention.' Joe said.
'I don't like attention.' I frowned.
Nick hadn't said anything so far. 'Hey Nick.'
'Erm, hi K.' He said. He didn't look at me.
I frowned again. What did I do?
'Listen, I've got to go, but I'll see you all later.' Nick continued.
'I'll come, I've got class with you.' Joe said to him. 'Bye guys.' They left.
'Come on, or we'll be late.' Danny said. He had business with me.
We entered the business room and as Daniel took a seat at the back of the room, I handed my essay to Mrs Richardson, the business teacher. Then I joined Daniel at the back of the room.
'What's Nick's problem?' I asked as I got my book out of my bag.
'What do you mean?' Daniel answered.
'Oh c'mon! Surely you saw when he said hi to me, he didn't even look at me! It wasn't even a proper hi, normally he hugs me.' I explained impatiently.
'Look, you'll have to talk to him yourself K.' He replied.
'What? Daniel, do you know something?' I frowned. 'Danny?'
He looked up. 'You can not tell Nick that I told you, okay? I'm telling you because I don't like lying to you.'
'I won't say anything.' I promised.
'Nick is crushing on you.' He said.
'What?' I couldn't believe my ears. 'Nick likes me?'
He nodded. 'Don't tell him I told you.'
I didn't answer because Mrs Richardson had started her lecture.
Nick liked me? As in, had feelings for me?
But the question was, did I feel the same way for him?

***************************************************************
After business, I walked on my own to the library to finish my coursework in engineering for my free lesson.
I couldn't concentrate though. What Daniel told me had just hit me hard. I didn't know why it was such a big deal. I didn't date. And Nick wasn't an exception.
Was he?
I wasn't even sure if I was interested in him. I mean, he was good looking in his own way, and we had a lot in common, especially our love for science. But I'd been best friends with Daniel and Joe for a long time now and they would always be best friends to me, even when we harmlessly flirted sometimes. When Nick joined the group, I'd automatically put him in the same category as Daniel and Joe. But for some reason, now Daniel had just told me that Nick liked me, I'd begun to see things differently.
I put my head on the cold desk.
What the hell?

'Hey, Katherine.'

I looked up. It was Natalie, Jessica's friend.
'What?' I asked, not in the mood for any aggravation.

'Oh, very friendly.' She said sarcastically. She sat down next to me. 'How are you?'

'Erm, I'm fine, thanks.' I frowned. Natalie had never spoke to me before. 'You?'

'Yeah, I'm good thanks.' She smiled in a friendly way. 'So what you doing?'

'Finishing some coursework.' I answered.

'Cool. So, what do you think of Hoffman then?'

'Hmm?' Now I was suspicious. Had Jess asked her to do this? 'I only met him at a party, so I don't really know him very well. I mean, he seems friendly, but I'm not in the mood for making new friends.'

'I'm sorry I asked you that.' She lowered her voice. 'I'm truth, Jess asked me to ask you.'

I sighed. 'Look, you can tell her I'm not interested in him. Seriously, I don't like guys.'

'What, at all?' She tilted her head. 'Tell me, are you a lesbian?'

'What? No. I just don't date. I'm more interested in getting through college and university.'

'You're thinking of going to uni? Wow, I'm impressed.' She sounded like she really meant it.

'Erm thanks.' I muttered.

'I seriously envy you Katherine.' She sounded slightly embarrassed at the fact. 'Really, I do.'

'Why me?' I said sceptically.

'Darling, have you looked at yourself? Perfect figure, perfect grades, no drama.' She said. 'That's why Jess is worried about you stealing Hoffman, she's jealous of you and feels threatened.'

'Ugh, she's got nothing to worry about.' I rolled my eyes. 'I have a question.'

'Go on.'

'Why are you randomly talking to me? I mean, nobody ever goes out of their way to chat to me, unless it's Joe, Daniel or Nick.' I asked.

'I'm just being nice.' She shrugged. 'And I'm bored. Plus, I don't have a problem with you unlike Jess. Honestly. I like you Katherine. It's nice to finally talk to someone who isn't bitchy and fake.' She chuckled.

I laughed too. 'I'll take that as a compliment.'

'Cool. Really, I don't see why Jess has a problem with you. Anyway, I've got to go, I'm meeting my boyfriend in the art block. See you around Katherine.' She gave me a genuine smile and left.

Okay, that was weird. I thought. I was having a really weird day today.
