The next morning
Nick's POV
7:23am
I finished my breakfast and was about to go and get dressed when I suddenly remembered that I was going to call Rebecca.
I found her number in my contacts and called her.
She picked up after a few seconds. 'Hello?''Hey Rebecca, it's Nick. We met last night, at the party.' I reminded her.
'Oh Nick, hi!' She remembered. 'Erm, how are you?'
'A bit hungover, but overall fine. What about you?' I asked.
'Yeah, I'm good thanks. It was nice meeting you.'
'Yeah, same.' I paused. 'Do you want to hang out after college today? You know, go out for coffee or something?'
'Sure, I'm free after college. I've got to go, but I'll see you later then.'
'Yeah, bye Rebecca.'
'Bye Nick.'
I hung up and went to get dressed.8:15
I met up with Joe, Daniel and Katherine outside the science block where we always did.
'Morning you three.' Katherine smiled.
Oh god, that smile. I'd never get used to seeing it.
'I bet you've all got hangovers, haven't you?' She continued.'Yep, my head is killing.' Joe complained. 'Danny, can I have some of your Lucozade?'
'No, you should have brought your own.'
'I'm not as hungover as this morning.' I shrugged. 'Probably due to all the coffee I had.'
'Well I'm not surprised.' She grinned. ' I saw a video of you two having a drinking competition.' She gestured to me and Daniel. 'Idiots.'
'We had a bloody awesome time though.' Daniel added. 'That reminds me, Nick, who was the blonde chick you were talking to?'
'Blonde chick?' Katherine turned to me.
'Oh, yeah, that was Rebecca.' I explained. 'She's studying business too. We spoke this morning over the phone.'
'Wow, that was fast.' Joe grinned.
'No, it's not like that.' I suddenly felt uncomfortable. I didn't look at Katherine. 'We're just friends, we've just met.'
'What's she like?' Katherine asked.
I looked at her. Her face was calm with some interest.
Well of course she's not gonna be bothered! I thought. She doesn't like you Nick! She never will!'Erm she's cool. She's also studying work skills as well as business but she doesn't know what she wants to do in the future. I think I'll get to know her more later though. We're hanging out after college.'
'Nice.' Katherine nodded and smiled. Then she looked at her watch. 'Ah, crap! I've got to go! I've remembered, I've got a meeting with the careers teacher about my options for next year. I'm late!' She rushed off.
Daniel tapped my shoulder. 'Hey, Nick, can I come to hang out with you two after college? Rebecca's well fit.'
'No.'
Katherine's POV
Okay, I lied. My meeting was tomorrow actually.
I shouldn't have lied to my friends. But I suddenly felt like I didn't want to be there.
But this, anger, this resentment and hurt that flared through me suddenly! It was irrational, yet I felt it was reasonable. It was the first time I experienced jealousy and I hated it.
But why? Didn't this prove that I had feelings for Nick?
I'd been trying to untangle my feelings for Nick but it only left me more confused.
I didn't even know this Rebecca girl yet I felt jealous of her. And she was blonde unlike me. And from what I heard, very pretty. And uncomplicated.I leaned against a wall and sighed. Why did I feel this way? Nick was my best friend.
So why did I feel jealous?
