1 year later

I woke up to a quiet house. That must mean that Nick was either entertaining Will or feeding him his breakfast.

I slipped on my dressing gown over my nightie and walked downstairs to the living room.

Nick was sat on the rug with Will, and Will was playing with some silver spoons from the kitchen.
Will saw me come in and pointed imperiously, smiling widely.

Nick chuckled. 'He's been waiting for you to get up, so I thought I'd keep him occupied with some of our best silver.'

I grinned. 'What was wrong with his building blocks?'

'He lost interest.' He laughed as I walked over and picked Will up in my arms.
'Who's mummy's favourite boy, is it you?' I cooed as Will laughed delightedly.

Nick smiled. 'I'll make you some breakfast. What do you want?'

'Just coffee thanks.' I answered, sitting on the sofa with Will.

He wriggled to get down, so I gently lowered him to the rug and he tottered on his little legs to the spoons.
I was so happy with how things had turned out. Will had the nanobots managing his condition, Nick and I were totally loved up and life was perfect.

Nick handed me my coffee and joined me on the sofa. 'Any plans for today?'

'Don't know. Might just take Will to the park, then I might do some baking.' I told him.

'Red velvet cake?' Nick suggested. It was his favourite.

'Sure.' I laughed. My phone suddenly rang. I looked at the caller ID: Mary. I quickly answered. 'Hey Mary.'

'Hi Rebecca. I was wondering if you could come into work today, as Charlie is off sick.' She asked.

'Erm, sure.' I nodded. Since Will was born, Mary had rearranged my work hours to Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. It was Tuesday. Nick wasn't at work because Mary had given him some time off because of some new project they were working on, and Nick was doing some research at home instead for her.

'Thank you ever so much.' She said. 'Are you sure it's not too much trouble?'

'No, I'm sure Will will be fine with his dad.' I reassured her. 'Let me just get ready, and I'll be on my way.'

'Okay. Thanks Rebecca.'

'You're welcome.' I ended the call, and turned to Nick, who was watching Will. 'Mary needs me to come in because Charlie is off sick.'

He nodded. 'Okay. I'll take Will to the park if you want.'

'Thanks babe.' I kissed him and rushed upstairs. I changed into a knee length navy sleeveless dress and a black blazer, with my black kitten heels. I tied my hair up into a messy bun and put on some black mascara. I put all my necessary items in my bag and went back downstairs. Nick and Will were still in the living room.

'Have a good day.' I kissed Nick and then gave Will a hug. 'Be a good boy for daddy, okay?'

'He always is.' Nick chuckled.

I said my goodbyes and walked out to my car and drove to Calimov.

I finished the phone call and sighed. I was bored. I'd rather be at home with my husband and son.

I looked up as the double entrance doors opened.

It was Katherine.

I gave a superficial smile as she came over to the desk. 'Hi Katherine. Do you want me to tell Mary you're on your way up?'

'Well that would help.' She said.

'No need for the sarcasm.' I muttered as I typed a quick email to Mary.

'What?' She narrowed her eyes.

Fucking bitch had ears like a bat.
'Oh, nothing.' I sent the email. 'I've told Mary.'

'How's Nick and... Will?' She asked. She knew about Will because, as a member of the board, she knew all the employees business.

As if she cared.
'Yeah, they're both fine. Will's starting to learn to talk.' I deliberately didn't mention Nick.

'That's nice.' She must've realised I wasn't going to talk about Nick to her, because she said, 'I'm going to head up now.'

'Okay.' I signed her in and leaned back in my seat.

Just an hour til lunch.

4 hours later

I entered the house, and heard the TV. I went into the living room, where Nick was watching TV. He looked up when I entered. 'Evening sweetheart.' He said. 'Will's had his dinner. He's having a nap now.'

'Okay.' I sat down next to him. 'What a day.'

'Hard day?' He enquired.

'You can say that again.' I nodded. I heard crying from upstairs.

Nick was about to stand up, but I stopped him. 'It's alright, I'll go.'

'You sure? You've been at work all day.'

'Yes, of course.' I walked upstairs and went to Will's room. He had obviously woken up. I picked him up and carried him downstairs. 'Alright mate. Mummy's back.'

I brought him into the living room and sat on the sofa with him on my lap. 'Ssh, it's okay.'

He eventually quietened down and became restless, wanting to get down. He wanted to play.

I lowered him down and he went straight to his toy box.

'So, anything interesting happened at work today?' Nick asked, as Will started taking out various toys.

'Not much.' I shrugged. I didn't mention Katherine. She was out of Nick's life. He didn't need to be reminded of her. He'd probably already forgotten her name.

'No, Will, away from there!' Nick suddenly said. I looked up. Will was near the tv, messing with stuff on the TV stand.

'C'mon you.' I walked over, but before I reached him, he only put his hand near an exposed plug socket. It was switched off, but a blue light/blue sparks suddenly emitted from his hand and reacted with the plug socket.

I knew exactly what that was.

Shit!!

I quickly picked him up, and put him near his toys again.

But it was too late. Nick had already seen.

He was looking from Will to me, back and forth in shock.

I gulped.

'Wha... What was that?' He finally managed to speak.

I played dumb. 'I don't know what you're talking about.'

'Don't pretend you don't know.' He said quietly. 'The look on your face says it all.'

I avoided eye contact. My heart was racing. 'Nick, it's not what you think...'

'I don't know what to think!!' He frowned. 'So I'd love to hear yourexplanation, because I'm drawing up a blank.'

I took a deep breath. 'Nanobots, Nick. Nanobots.'
