Nick's POV
8:50pmI was at Daniel's party and I'd brought Rebecca.
Unfortunately Katherine had brought Hoffman with her so I was doing my best to stay out of their way.I chilled in the kitchen with Joe.
'Joe, you know Hoffman?' I started.'Yes, I know him, why?' He asked.
'You know his reputation with girls, don't you?' I replied.'Of course!' He snorted. 'Austin Hoffman, the biggest player ever!'
'I've tried warning Katherine about him. So has Daniel, but she won't listen to either of us. She's literally gone brain-dead.' I shook my head.
'Seriously mate, I don't know what the hell she's thinking either.' He agreed. 'I'm really worried that he's gonna hurt her.'
So was I. The argument I'd had with her left me really churned up. What if he screwed her over and she didn't want to speak to me? Because I was right?
'Hey, Nick, right?'
I looked up.
Austin Hoffman.
I fought back the urge to punch his stupid face and gave him a pleasant smile instead. 'Yes. And... You are?'
'Austin Hoffman. Katherine's boyfriend. Surely she's told you about me?'
Wow, so egotistical. Katherine really was brain-dead.
'Not really. I wasn't even aware she had a boyfriend.' I lied. 'She never mentioned you.'
'Really?' He frowned. 'Oh. Well, anyway, nice to meet you mate.'
'Likewise.' I said and then blatantly ignored him. He took the hint and walked away.
'Like, I said, brain-dead.' I muttered. I decided to get another drink so I walked into the kitchen and went to the fridge. Unfortunately, when I walked in, Hoffman was in there, making out with Katherine. She looked beautiful tonight. She was wearing a sparkly silver top with thin straps that was loosely tucked into black pencil skirt that ended mid-thigh. Her dark brown hair was tousled in a sexy casual way. They broke apart and Hoffman said something to her making her smile, before leaving the kitchen.
She suddenly spotted me, and I froze. Her beauty struck me like the first time I saw her go to a party; my brain went numb and my heart started racing.
She opened her mouth to say something, and I knew she was going to make everything alright between us, but then suddenly I felt arms slide around my waist from behind, and Katherine looked behind me, before closing her mouth and walking out of the kitchen, blanking me out completely.
'Hello, handsome.' Rebecca said, kissing my shoulder.
'Hey gorgeous.' I said, turning around and kissing her lightly on the lips. 'You enjoying the party so far?'
'Oh yes.' She smiled. 'Definitely since you're here.'
'Well, I'm glad.' I put an arm around her.
'Was that your friend, Katherine?' She asked. 'The one who just walked out?'
'Yeah.' I said, my mood dropping. When Katherine had been about to say something, I knew she'd forgive me and we'd be friends again. But then she seemed to have changed her mind for some reason.
Come on, Katherine! It's me, Nick! Your best friend! Just talk to me!!
'She's very pretty.' Rebecca commented.
'Hmm.' I said, barely listening. Then I realised this was my girlfriend trying to have a conversation with me, so I paid her more attention. 'She's dating Austin Hoffman.'
'Isn't he like, a huge fuckboy?' She raised an eyebrow.
'Yeah, I don't know what she was thinking. She only lost her virginity to him a week into their relationship. She needs to be careful, or he's gonna hurt her.' I said worriedly.
'I get it, she's your best friend, you're just looking out for her. I'm sure she'll eventually listen to you.' She consoled. 'She'll come around. Give her time.'
'That's what I love about you Beck's. You're so sweet and considerate.' I smiled.
'Sweet's my middle name!' She laughed.
Katherine's POV
'Hello sexy.' Hoffman said, making me jump.
'Austin!' I scolded. 'Not funny; you made me jump.'
'Sorry angel.' He chuckled, kissing me deeply and passionately.
When we finally broke apart, he whispered in my ear 'I'll be upstairs if you want me.' And I smiled. He left the kitchen and I decided that I'd join him later, after a few more drinks.
With this thought in mind, I turned towards the fridge and accidentally locked eyes with Nick Clarke. Automatically, my heart started hammering at the sight of him. I still had feelings for him, even though I was with Hoffman. I didn't care that he was with Rebecca.
I opened my mouth to say something; to make it alright with him, but as I was about to apologise first, I saw Rebecca walk up behind him and wrap her arms around his waist. She looked directly at me.
I closed my mouth again and stormed out, completely ignoring the happy couple. God, talk about nauseating.
Fuck the drinks, where was Austin?

Fanfic'I am so sorry!' The dark haired asshole apologised as my books tumbled to the floor. 'Whatever.' I sighed and picked them up. 'Next time, look where you're going.' 'I am, really sorry.' He looked genuinely concerned. 'Are you alright?' 'Yeah, I'm...
