'You mean to tell me... that you went behind my back and went to Peterson?' Nick looked furious.

'Please, Nick, keep your voice down!' I said. I'd put Will to bed, and then Nick had demanded an explanation from me. He didn't like my story about lying to him.

He glowered at me. 'I can't believe this. You fucking lied to me.'

'Nick, it was for Will! I couldn't let him die.' I reasoned, but Nick was pacing the living room, not listening to me.

'You utter conniving cow. I should have known. When the scan showed that Will's condition was okay. I should have seen it. You deceived me.'

'Nick, please-'

'Why should I listen to you?' He growled.

'Because you're the one who blinded me! With your talk of ethics and morals!' I raised my voice, getting desperate now.  'It's not my fault you lured me into a false sense of security, thinking I could save our son, because of ethics, and morals! This is just as much your fault.'

'My fault?! I told you the treatment was dangerous and untested! But you obviously didn't listen, and went behind my back, so don't you dare talk to me about morals! You're just selfish!' He flared up.

My eyes were filling with tears. 'Nick, I had no choice-'

'Of course you had a choice!' He argued. 'We could have found another way to save Will, but you chose not to.'

'Nick-'

'No. Don't talk to me. I can't stand the sight of you right now.'

With that, I left the room crying. Nick was right, I was utterly selfish.
