Later on in the year (maybe a few months)
I was sat on my bed, sorting through my coursework. I had so much to do, and even though I handled brilliantly under pressure, this was too much.
And I was struggling.
I put my head in my hands, sighing.
At this rate, I'd fail the course. My laptop made a noise and I saw that I had an email from Mr Scott my engineering teacher.
I opened it:
Katherine, I'm going to need your engineering essay in by the end of the week.
Mr Scott
I screamed in frustration.
Give me a break!!I put my coursework in my folder and threw myself onto the bed.
My phone suddenly rang, making me jump. I looked at the caller ID. It was Nick.
I pressed answer. 'Hey.''Hey babe, how are you?' He replied enthusiastically.
'Fine.' I said flatly.
'You don't sound fine.' He paused. 'What's wrong? Is it Ramona? You been in an argument?'
'What, no, no. We're cool.' I said.
'Then what is it? Coursework? The work is quite pressurising.' He guessed.
'What, no, I'm doing great with coursework.' I lied. 'I'm fine, I think I'm just tired. From late nights watching movies with my roommate.'
This was the first time I lied to Nick and it felt wrong. But for some reason I didn't want Nick to see me being weak about something.
But since when did I care about that?'You want me to come over, give you a shoulder massage?' He offered. 'C'mon, can I tempt you?'
'Sorry babe, but no, I've got a class in ten minutes.' I lied again. 'I'll call you again tonight, okay?'
'Yeah, bye beautiful.' He said and I hung up.
I actually had the afternoon off, so I got a coffee from the cafe and carried on with my coursework.
