A "normal" evening

'Mum, I'm back!' I yelled when I walked in after college.

'I'm in the kitchen!' She shouted back. I entered the kitchen where mum was cooking. 'Hi sweetie, how was your day?'

'Yeah, it was alright.' I shrugged nonchalantly. 'Daniel set off a coke bomb in the canteen at lunch which was funny.'

'A coke bomb?' Mum repeated, her eyes narrowing. 'What's a coke bomb?'

'Basically you get a bottle of coke and some mentos. You line the mentos up and wrap them in cling film, not too tight but not too loose. Then you put them in the coke bottle and screw the lid on the coke loosely and wait. A few minutes later, the coke ends up getting through the cling film, and.. Bam. Coke everywhere.' I explained.

'Wow, very scientific.' Mum teased.

'Yeah, well, it was my idea.' I grinned. 'I started the coke bomb idea last year.'

She shook her head, amused. 'Dinner will be ready soon.'

'Okay, I'll just go and get changed.' I said and went upstairs to my bedroom. Well.. I used the term, bedroom, loosely. It was my happy zone. I did everything in here. Study, listen to music, and chat to Daniel and Joe online. Mum didn't mind my anti-social-ness, because she was very much an introvert like me. We preferred a quiet life and didn't mind if the silence wasn't filled with conversation.

I got changed into some Adidas tracksuit pants, a white tank top and my cobalt blue hoodie. Blue was my favourite colour. My bedroom walls were painted blue, my carpet was blue, my bed was blue, notebooks were blue, my phone case was (sparkly) blue, you name it, it was a shade of blue. And it had nothing to do with the fact that my eyes were light blue. They were my best feature, as people kept telling me.

After dinner, I escaped back to my room and opened my laptop logging on to Facebook. I also opened up my folder on my memory stick which had my science project on it. It was due in next month and I was almost finished with it, just needed to add a few finishing touches. I was doing my project on catalysts.

As I got to work on it, a message popped up on my Facebook. I opened the tab and saw that it was a message from Nick Clarke, the guy I met earlier. I opened the message:

Hi Katherine, it was nice meeting you earlier. I've already done my project for Mr Varner, so I was wondering if you needed any help with yours. What's your project on?

I typed back and sent:

Hi, same here. My project is on catalysts and no thanks, I don't need any help, I'm almost done. Thanks for the offer though.

A few seconds later, he replied back:

No way! I'm doing a project on catalysts too! Who knew we had such similar interests?

I rolled my eyes and typed:

I'm just fascinated by the topic, that's all. How a simple substance can change the rate of a reaction by speeding up the process. It's very intriguing.

He answered:

I know exactly what you mean there! I love science. Hey, do you want me to sit next to you in science then maybe we can discuss this topic more thoroughly?

I smiled and replied back:

Same. And yes. Looks like I'll be seeing a lot more of you then Nicholas Clarke.

I logged out of my Facebook and went back to finishing my project. It was so weird, I thought, as I worked. I wouldn't dare to talk to someone face to face like that, but online I was a completely different person.
