Birthday

I walked into school as usual and met up with Joe, Daniel and Nick.
'Happy birthday K!' Joe shouted.

'Shut up!' I hissed, not wanting to draw any attention to myself.

'Happy birthday beautiful.' Nick wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed me. I kissed him back passionately​, whilst ignoring the stupid faces Joe and Danny were making.
Last week, when Joe and Daniel found out about me and Nick, they were relieved that we'd finally got together. Daniel had said he was sick of all of my mood swings. They made Nick promise not to hurt me though.

When we pulled apart, Nick got got a small sparkly gift bag from his school bag and handed it to me. 'I hope you like it. I bought it because I think it represents you a lot.'

I opened the gift bag and pulled out a small black box.

'It's not a ring or anything too mainstream.' Nick added quickly. 'Don't worry, it's not a big commitment present.'

I opened the box and smiled widely. It was a beautiful diamond hair clip.
'Nick, I love it!' I beamed and hugged him. 'Thank you so much.'

'How does it represent Katherine?' Joe asked.

Nick turned red. He was so adorable when he did that. 'Well it's beautiful and full of sparkle. Just like her.' He smiled at me and put an arm around my shoulders. I put my arms around his waist.

'Ugh, please. Get a room.' Daniel pulled a face. 'Here you go K.' He handed me a wrapped up box.

I opened it to reveal my favourite perfume that I'd been trying to persuade mum to buy me for months but it was too expensive.
'Danny, how on earth did you manage to buy it-?' I said in disbelief.

'You didn't think I just spent all of my weekly wages all at once, did you?' Daniel shrugged, referring to his job at the garage. 'I put some aside for your present.'

I grinned. 'Mate, you're the best. Thank you, I love it! I've been trying to get my mum to buy me this for ages.' I hugged him.

'I know, you wouldn't shut up about it.' He laughed. 'Someone had to do something.'

'Damn, now I'm wishing I'd spent more on your present K.' Joe said. 'Mine's gonna look shit compared to theirs.'

'Joe, I don't care how much your present​ cost, you didn't even have to get me one.' I laughed. 'But since you have... Can I have it please?'

He smiled and handed me a plastic bag. I opened it.
It was full of chocolate bars. I noticed there was a lot of Mars bars in there.
I grinned. 'Only a best friend would know my obsession for chocolate, not to mention Mars bars. Thank you very much. It's not a birthday without chocolate.'

'Not just any birthday.' Daniel grinned. 'Your 18th birthday. You're now officially an adult.'

'Yep.' I paused. 'It doesn't feel any different to when I was 17. But then again, that's what happens with all my birthday's.'

'Well, it's your 18th.' Joe said. 'So do you wanna come to a house party tonight?'

'My mum's making dinner tonight and Nick's invited.' I refused.

'Well can't you come to the party after dinner?' Daniel asked. 'Please tell me you're not going back to your anti-social persona.'

'I'll text mum now.' I took out my phone and texted mum:

Hey mum, is it okay if I can go to a party after dinner? Joe's throwing a party for my birthday and would hate if I missed it xx

Daniel turned to me. 'By the way K, I've had an idea for lunchtime.'

'Go on.' I waited.

'A coke bomb.' He grinned mischievously. 'For your birthday. I've already got the coke and the Mentos in my bag.'

'Yes mate!' I high-fived him. 'That should be fun!'
My phone bleeped to show a text from mum:

I suppose darling. It is your 18th birthday after all xx

I grinned. 'Yep, I'm coming to the party!!'

'Yes!' Joe grinned and we all group hugged.
