Magnus

The hospital doors slammed open, and Magnus stormed in, a wind blowing behind him. Brianna ran behind him, dragging along Eleanor.

"Magnus wait!" she shouted. "You can't just walk into this place and magically cure Alec! People will ask questions, questions we can't answer! You have to be logical about this."

"I don't care about logical, I care about saving Alexander life!"

Magnus rushed down the hallway, to the waiting room, where Clary and Jace sat, with Izzy and Simon no where to be seen.

Clary glanced up, and gasped when she saw Magnus. Jace jumped up, knocking over his chair in thru process.

"Where the hell have you been?" shouted Jace. "It's been two days since we last saw you? Why didn't you call, why didn't you come back, why? Just, why?"

Clary looked at Magnus worriedly. "Magnus, where did you go? Why did you satyr away? We've been worried sick about you, we thought something had happened to you, we need you to tell us-

"There's no time for that. Where's Alec?" Magnus asked, shutting Clary up.

Jace stood in front of Clary, protectively. "He's in the room to the left. The doctors have asked us to say goodbye, but there's still a small chance he'll recover."

Magnus stalked past him, not even paying attention to what he was saying. He had to get to Alexander. Before..... before it was too late.

Brianna let go of Eleanor's hand, and told her to satyr in the waiting room. She ran after Magnus, and grabbed his sleeve.

"Let me go." he growled. "I'm doing this, with or without your permission."

"I know. This is a stupid idea, and we're going to get caught. But at least let me help you. I have more control over my powers than you. I can make sure no one comes in and disturbs you. Besides, it might take a while to figure out how to actually cure him."

Magnus looked down at this small girl, not that much younger than him, a little girl, who had been through a lot, and had much more experience and knowledge then Magnus. A girl he'd just met. A stranger. So why did he trust her? It didn't matter, what mattered was saving Alec.

"Ok" he said, nodding at Brianna. "Keep a, lookout, and don't let anyone come into that room. We're going to have to make a quick escape after this, so you might want to explain what's going on to the others. And don't worry, once they understand what I am, they'll know what's going on, and they come with us."

The pair hurried down the hall, counting down the numbers.

"Stop!"

The two slowly found themselves blocked by a fuming Izzy, holding hands with a flustered Simon.

"Magnus." she said, sharply. "You have been gone for TWO DAYS, and your best friend is dyeing in a hospital room. What do you have to say for yourself."

Magnus hung his head down.

"I'm sorry." he mumbled. "This is all my fault."

Izzy developed a bewildered look. "What?" she asked.

"This is all my fault. But I know how to fix it. If you just let me see him, I know I can help him, make him better!"

Izzy stared at him, confused. Then, a look of understanding crossed her face. She pulled Simon and herself to the side, and allowed Brianna and Magnus to pass.

"Magnus", she murmured, grabbing his sleeve as he passed. "Let my brother know how you feel. Let him know before it's too late."

Magnus nodded, and with a deep breath, he opened the door. Inside was a devastating sight.

Alec layer in bed, his entire arm a bluish black arm. His fingers resembled overripe bananas, and his arm looked more like a tentacle. His breathing was a dry rasping sound, interrupted with little fits of choking. He was at the edge of death.

Magnus closed the door softly, and rushed to Alec's side. It brought tears to his eyes, to see what he had done to Alec.

"Alexander." he whispered softly. "Wake up."

Alec didn't stir. With a trembling hand, Magnus rested his palm against Alec's chest and closed his eyes. He thought about all the good times he'd had with Alec, all of the late night slumber parties, the secrets shared under covers, the days spent at the beach, the games of hide and seek in the forest, that Alec would always win. The kiss they has shared, before Magnus has ruined everything. He channeled these thoughts as hard as he could, and snapped his fingers.

Nothing happened.

"No. NO!"

With panic setting in, Magnus snapped his fingers again. Nothing. Again. Nothing. Again. Still nothing!

Magnus cried out in rage, in pain, in sorrow. He slapped his hands, he banged them against the wall, he bit them, he tried everything he could think of to make them ignite.

Nothing worked.

Alec took in a deep breath, and let it out. He didn't breath in again.

One minute.

Two minutes.

Three minutes.

He still did no breath.

Magnus sat there, as the flat line sounded throughout the room. It wasn't a faulty wire. It wasn't Elizabeth playing tricks. It wasn't wrong this time.

Magnus was too late.

Alec was dead.
