Brianna sat on a bench, with her mothers spell book balanced on her lap. Adi was flopped on the end of the bench, messing around with a contraption of rubber bands and marbles. The others were on the little kiddy playground, discussing how they should deal with their parents, who had called in the morning, freaking out and threatening to call the police. Alec and Magnus wanted to just erase their memories, but Izzy and Jace were firmly against the idea, as they thought they should tell the adults.

The group had been arguing for an hour, and Briana was sick of it, so she and Adi escaped to the opposite end of the park so Brianna could see if there might be anything help her Mom's book. So far, all she'd found were survival spells, and self defense techniques.

"Haven't you already looked through that thing a thousand times? I'm pretty sure you'd know if there w's something important in there already." Adi crawled up the layer herself on top of Brianna, blocking her view of the book.

"Adi!" Brianna groaned. She grabbed the edge of the cover, and tried to tug it out from underneath Adi. But she didn't like that. She grabbed the other end and started to pull the book out of Brianna's hands. Gritting her teeth, Brianna gave it one last yank.

With a loud rip, and a spark of light, the book's spine gave out, and it was ripped in half. Leaning on her hands, Brianna stared in horror as the last piece of her mother was broken.

"Brianna I'm..... I'm so sorry! There's got to be a way of fixing it, I'm sure that you can use a repairing spell, or we could even just take it to a book shop and have them rebind it, it can't just be permanently destroyed- Brianna?"

She had gotten to her knees, and was kneeling over the two pieces, a wisp of smoke coming off of it. A tear rolled down her cheek, and onto the book, sizzling. Adi came up behind her, unsure of weather she was allowed to comfort Brianna or not.

"Wait a minute." whispered Brianna. She leaned and ran her hand along the broken spine. A small corner was sticking out, and with a little effort, Brianna pulled out a tightly rolled scroll. She and Adi looked at each other, and they slowly unrolled it out in front of them.

Dark runes were laid out in a strange pattern. The whole paper gave off an evil feeling. There were twisted shapes circling the runes, a  pentagonal formation, and demonic writing bordered the scroll. Both girls felt something very bad stirring within each of them.

"Uhh, Brianna? I think we have a problem!" The group came running, and Clary pointed back at the house, fear plain on her face. The girls turned around, and Brianna gave a little scream. Dark smoke filled the sky, and the tips of maroon flames licked the skyline. Magnus snapped is fingers and everyone gave a gasp, as they were instantly transported to the front of Brianna's home. Simon immediately fell to the ground and learned that Chinese teriyaki looks the same coming up as it did going down.

Brianna was sobbing and she tried to run forward, tried figure out a way to save the only home she had, the one place that had protected her for years. Adi ran and wrapped her arms around  Brianna.

"It's too late", she said in Brianna's ear. "There's nothing we can do now"

"NO NO NO NO, I HAVE TO SAVE IT, I NEED TO SAVE IT, I CAN'T LOSE IT, I CAN'T..., I can't... I..can't..."

With a scream filled with the pain and defeat of a poor girl who lost her home, family, and now her refuge,, she fell to her knees, gripping Adi's hands so hard, the blood ran down her wrists. The others solemnly watched the two girls, knowing that they would only be intruding if they tried to comfort the broken girl.

The eight watched the flames slowly wind down, as sirens filled the air. Magnus and Alec gripped each others hands, and with a few whispers from Magnus, Alec snapped his fingers and murmured something unintelligible. Fog swirled all around them, obscuring the burning building. When it cleared up, they were no longer at the apartment. Instead, they were at a very large home.

Magnus was astounded. "Alec! How the hell did you manage to get us all the way over here on your first attempt?! And you're not even tired from the distance! I would be passed out right now, this than half way across town!"

Simon crept in between them, trying not to disturb Adi and Brianna, who was now must sitting on the ground lifelessly, staring at nothing. "And what exactly is this place?"

Izzy sighed and stood next to her bother, who was staring at his hands in wonder.

"This was our childhood home. We moved  few years ago, but our parents still own the building. It never gets used but is properly maintained 24/7. "

Jace whistled, taking in the impressive garden. "How come you never took me here?! This place is amazing!"

"This place has many bad memories for us... but right now, it's the best place for us to be. Our parents would never suspect us to come here, and the servants will keep quiet if I order them to." Alec walked over and took a little card out of his pocket. He held it up to a black box, and with a buzz, the front door opened.

A small female figure poked her head out of the opening

"Hello? Mr. Lightfoot? Is that you?"

"Hi Patricia." Alec said with a smile. " Can you please prepare a few rooms for my friends. They are need of a place to stay for a while.

"Of course Mr. Lightwood. Your parents have been worried sick, I will inform them of your arrival immediately."

"NO! I mean, please do not alert them that I am here right now. It will be better for everyone of they don't know anything for now."

"Very well" said Patricia, looking worried. "I will tell the others to make up some rooms at once."

"Thank you Patricia."

The others walked in, amazed looks on Clary and Simons face, and a straight face from Izzy. Brianna showed no emotion and had to be dragged in by Adi, who immediately hooker her to her room.

With a final look outside the door, Alec closed the door, the slam echoing through the streets.
