"Okay, we have a few things to cover, and none of them are good."
After Magnus and Alec had been slapped enough my Izzy, Adi and Brianna had reappeared and called a group meeting. They both had frowns and Brianna's eyes were suspiciously red. Magnus was immediately nervous, refusing to let go of Alecs hand as they perched on the couch next to Simon, Izzy in his lap. Jace choose to stand behind Clarys chair, his face showing no emotion.
"You guys have probably noticed me and Briana going missing for a while" Adi stated, arms crossed and chin up, Brianna behind her with hands in her pockets. "A little after we found that scroll and realized that Magnus and Alec might be able to save the day, but die in the end, we decided to do some research. It..wasn't a pleasant search."
"We managed to find a brief passage on the scroll in a library in Taiwan, after we jumped to Italy and spoke with one of the ancients" Brianna stepped up, and put her hand on Adi's shoulder. Upon seeing the others confused stares, the girls looked at each other.
"The ancients have been around for over thousands of years" Brianna explained. "They're some original warlocks that created many powerful spells. When humans discovered them, they went into hiding, and are now only a bedtime story to tell little ones. But my family was a powerful one, and we knew of a few ancients that are scattered around the globe. One in particular was very close with my mother. Their name is Niche, short for Nicodemeus. Niche was the first to see darkness in my sisters heart, and wanted my mother to be wary around Elizabeth. Nowadays, they're in deep hiding, scared to even see the outside. But I have a small key, that fits in any lock. Use it, and that door opens to Niche. It was them who told us the scroll was unfinished, and that we needed to seek out more about it. Niche pointed us in the direction of Taiwan, as it's rumored that Taiwan was home to the first warlock, Beelzebub."
Seeing the look of fear on their faces, Adi smiled. "You've probably been taught that Beelzebub is the devil himself, or a dark evil entity bent on destroying all that is good." The looks on the others faces told Adi she was right. "This may be what you've been taught in school or church, but it's in fact a lie. Created by Beelzebub himself, in fact."
Simon, who grew up in a deeply religious jewish household stood up. " Now hold on just a minute." He aid, frowning. "You're telling me that one of the biggest aspects of religion itself, one of the very foundations of modern beliefs as a whole, the biggest evil known to man: Was a warlock."
"Is."
Simons mouth, as well as everyone else's, including Adi, fell open, as everyone stared at the girl who just uttered one wod that may have literally changed the fate of humanity.
"Excuse me?" Jace's stuttered.
"Is alive" Brianna mumbled, looking sheepishly a the ground. "None of the legends surrounding Beelzebub ever spoke of his death. Seeing how he was the very first to inherit, mor receive, or be cursed with powers, it's not too far of a stretch to think that he's immortal. And you have to know why he created this lie. When he learned of his magic, he was as frightened as anyone, scared that he'd been corrupted by the devil. He attempted to take his life many times. But over the years, he grew comfortable with his newfound magic, and wanted to use it to elp the world. But when the people saw this young man, with fists of flames, and blood red eyes, they geared him, thought he was a monster sent from hell. Fear can make people do irrational things." She glanced at Magnus and Alec. "You of all people, should know that."
Magnus bowed his head, Alec squeezing his hand tightly.
"But if Beelzebub wanted to do good, why didn't he just show the people what he could do to help them?" Clary argued. "Why be held back by fear alone?"
"He wasn't" Adi mumered. "He was also hunted by those who craved his power, and wanted to take it for themselves. He was hunted by kings who thought he would try to take their kingdoms, he was hunted by the church who believed he was the devil. He was hunted by madmen, who wanted to tear him apart and learn how he acquired his power, and gain magic of their own. But not even Beelzebub himself knew of where he came from. He couldn't help anyone if no one was willing to let him.
The group was silent at that. Simon wrapped his arms around Izzys waist and grasped her hands. Jace hugged clary's shoulders as she buried her face into his arms. Brianna simply looked at Adi, smiling sadly.
"I still don't understand what this has to do with this scroll of your"Izzy said quietly.
Briana snapped her fingers, and the scroll was in her hand. A dark cloud seemed to fall over the group, and a chill lingered in the air.
"This scroll contains the prophecy of two legendary warlocks, both with unimaginable power. These warlocks are to be lovers, who would do anything for each other. If an evil so great were to arise in this world, then these two lovers will be able to stop it, but one must make the ultimate sacrifice for the other, and in most cases, ultimate is never a good sign. There are stories about these lovers, and as you can imagine, there's almost never a happy ending. However, as cliche as it is, there's a piece missing from this. After scouring the shelves of a secret library hidden in an old temple, we were able to find a book that contained not the missing piece, but a passage that contains the information we believe is on that piece. "
Adi then reached into her back pocket and pulled out a tiny book no larger than her hand.
Jace snorted. "How is a tiny book like that going to hold so much informa OH MY GOD"
The book was rapidly expanding, to the point that on its side, the books thickness was taller than Clary. Adi smirked at the now gaping Jace.
Waving her hands, Brianna made the book flip to somewhere near the middle of the book. Dust filled the air, causing everyone to cough. "The book said that if the great threat was ever to arrive, the two lovers magic would strengthen even more than it already is, and the two will be able to perform enormous feats of magic. It also says that a sign will appear at the nearest full moon to the eve of the event that can end the world. However, there's supposed to be signs throughout the world that this event is soon to occur, such as an increase in natural disasters, planets out of orbit, and-"
Brianna gulped as she read the next line. "Mass extinction of human life."
You could hear a pin drop in the silence that followed.
Magnus cleared his throat. "If all this were to happen because of Elizabeth, she'd need a great deal of power, wouldn't she? And the only way she could get that power would be to take it from you two and Alec and I...So, we should be good, shouldn't we? Alec and I can test our limits every day to get a range and see if it ever increases. And if we don't get stronger then we're good so-
"It never said it had to be two adults" Adi muttered.
All eyes turned at her words. Magnus had gone pale. "What did you say" he whispered.
The prophecy. It only said that it had to be two lovers with great power. It could be a boy and a girl, it could be two grown boys." She took Briannas hand in her own. "It could be two teenage girls who only recently found each other."
The look of horror on Izzy's face was evident. Clary was buried in Jace's chest again, while he stared grimmly into space. You could confuse Magnus and Alec for statues they'd gone so still and pale.
The prophecy didn't discriminate. It wouldn't care who lived and who dies, it only cared that someone was going to lose it all.
