Simon stared at his best friend, his crush, his family, and watched her kiss the boy she was in love with. And that boy wasn't Simon. It was Jace.
When Simon walked outside to find Clary, he didn't expect to find her making out with Jace. So when he saw the two of them, wrapped up in each other, something snapped inside him.
Clary opened her eyes for a second, and saw him, starring at her and Jace.
"Simon!" she gasped. She pushed Jace back, the two of them blushing fiercely.
Simon didn't say a word. He simply turned around, and walked back into the hospital. Clary tried to run after him, but Jace grabbed her arm.
"Don't." he murmured. "Give him some time."
Clary looked at him, worriedly. "I just don't understand why he's so upset. We were just kissing."
Jace raised his eyebrows. "Wow, you don't know anything about guys, do you?"
"And what's that supposed to mean?" Clary said, offended.
Jace looked at her exasperated. "He's in love with you Clary! He's been in love with you for years, and everyone can see it but you."
Clary gaped at him, her mouth opening and closing like a fish. "He...I... Simon would never..... he can't possible be.... your lying."
Jace looked at her. "Am I?"
* * *
Simon clenched his fists together as he paced the lobby. Why had he gone outside?! If he hadn't gone outside then he would never have seen...... Simon let out a small scream. "Argh!!!"
"Woah, umm, am I interrupting something?"
Simon turned to see Izzy standing in the door way.
Oh, no sorry, I just..I was... I was only... Sorry." Simon didn't know what to say. Izzy knew he loved Clary, but she didn't know about the kiss. Simon wasn't sure if he should tell Izzy or not. He sat down in one of the uncomfortable chairs and sighed.
"I just went outside to, um, find Clary."
Izzy looked at him suspiciously. "And did you find her?"
Uh, um, yeah, I did. She uh, she was with... Jace."
Izzy's eyes softened. "You saw them kiss, didn't you?" Simon stared at her, amazed.
How'd you know?" he asked, bewildered. Izzy came into the room and sat down beside him.
"I know when someone just had their heart broken. I've seen that look in the mirror more times than I can count. Plus, it was only a matter of time before this happened. Jace and Clary are meant for each other, there's no denying that. You need to let her go and move on. If you don't, your just going to get your heart broken even more."
With a comforting squeeze to his knee, Izzy got up and walked out of the room. Simon sat there, contemplating what Izzy had said. He felt a sense of Dè Ja Vù, from when he and Izzy had a similar conversation yesterday. Wow, had everything that happened, really take course over one day? It seemed impossible that just yesterday, Alec was up and talking to them, that Magnus was with them, and that he and Clary were still best friends, without...Jace. Simon took a deep breath. Izzy was right, he had to let go of Clary. The problem was, he wasn't sure if he could.
He wasn't ready yet. He wasn't sure if he ever would be. But Clary and Jace deserved better, he wasn't going to be the jealous little babe. He just needed to find someone to show Clary that he didn't care anymore. But who?
Simon thought long and hard. Who wouldn't mind being his pretend girlfriend, to show Clary and Jace that he was okay with them?
Aha!
Simon knew the perfect person, someone who would never care. She was perfect. Simon got up and hurried down the hall, until he reached the room where Alec's family was.
"Hey Izzy, could you come here for a sec? I need to ask you something.
