Chapter 3

Moana's POV

 Maui and I decided to introduce our new friends to one another so that way we'd be comfortable hanging out as a group. Well let me tell you, Ariel and Jack are hitting it off really well despite being polar opposites. I think I even saw him drooling over her a few times already. It's cute. Speaking of boys, I've noticed Maui staring at me a lot and I mean A LOT these past couple of hours. "Maui? Do I have spinach stuck in my teeth or something? You've been staring at me for like two hours." He blushes and scratches the back of his neck adorably. "N-No, you don't have spinach in your teeth. I don't know why I've been staring like a creep. I'm sorry Mo." I blush myself. "It's okay. I don't mind you staring. In fact, I've been staring at you myself." He gasps in shock. "W-Why?" 

  Anxiety and feelings rise up instantly. This is it, the moment of truth. I can't avoid my feelings for Maui any longer. He needs to know how I feel about him. I sigh shakily and look down at the ground, fumbling with my hands nervously. Maui sits down beside me, takes my hands in his, and squeezes them. "Mo, whatever it is, just tell me. We're best friends. We've never hidden anything from each other." I nod in agreement. "I know Maui, it's just that with this bit of news, it's complicated. It could ruin our friendship." "Mo, please just tell me." My hands shake in his as I say the words "I like you Maui." Maui looks at me in confusion. "Well that could mean a lot of things Mo. Just how do you like me?" I blush and bite my lip until it bleeds. "I-I like you more than a friend." 

  I hesitantly look up at Maui and see the pure shock on his face. His jaw is dropped and drool is dripping out of his mouth. I politely point to it and he wipes it away quickly, blushing at me having noticed. "Maui, you're not saying anything and it's scaring me. Please tell me what you think." Maui puts an arm around my waist, which is a rather intimate action if I say so myself. "Moana..." My heart flutters. He hardly ever calls me by my full name but I love the way it rolls off of his lips. "I don't like you." Tears well up in my eyes. "Oh, that's okay. I wasn't expecting you to feel the same way back." I get up to go take a walk when Maui grabs a hold of my arm. "Mo, you didn't let me finish." I look at him in confusion. "I love you." 

   Now it's my turn to look at him in confusion. "Y-You do?" I see a lump form in his throat, probably from nerves as he nods a yes. "Mo, I've been in love with you for years. I was just too scared of getting rejected. If it were any other girl, I wouldn't give a shit, but you, I absolutely give a shit. You're my lifeline. You're everything for me Mo. There isn't any other girl for me. I realized that once we hit high school." I throw my arms around him and instantly shed all of the sadness that was present just moments ago.  "Maui, I love you too. Every word of what you just said applies to how I feel about you too. You don't even know how long I've been wanting to tell you that I love you. I've been carrying my feelings for you since elementary school." Maui chuckles. "That long huh? Wow I must be pretty handsome if I do say so myself." I roll my eyes. "You always have to ruin a sweet moment with your giant ego." He gives me a toothy grin and shrugs playfully. "What can I say except you're welcome." 

  I playfully shove Maui towards the lake that we're all hanging out at (it's located near campus). Maui sticks his tongue out at me before shoving it into my mouth in a heated kiss, making me the speechless one. Gah Maui, you don't even know what you do to me sometimes.
