We Did It!

Chapter 60

Moana's POV

Time Skip... Four months later...

Freshman year of college just flew by. It was a memorable first year of college in both bad and good ways, though the good outweighs the bad. This was the year that Maui and I finally confessed our feelings for one another. Looking back, I think everyone else knew how we felt about one another except Maui and I. We tried to shove our feelings down because we were afraid of ruining the strong foundation of friendship we've formed over the years. It seems so silly now. Being together as a couple is the best thing that's ever happened for us. Maui and I are strong apart, but together we're unstoppable. We all had our last final exams today and start moving out for the summer tomorrow. We're allowed two days to move out. Ariel and I are moving out tomorrow along with Jack and Maui because we all want to go home as soon as possible. Though as I think about home for Maui, I stupidly realize once again that Maui doesn't have a home to go to for the summer. I'm going to call my mom and ask her if Maui can spend the summer with us.

I grab my phone off my charger and call my mom. The phone rings four times before she finally answers. "Hello my little minnow. How are you baby girl?" I smile even though she can't see me. "Hey mom. I'm good. How are you?" "I'm good sweetheart thanks for asking. Your father and I are so excited to see you tomorrow! We haven't seen you in over two months so it'll be nice to have three months to spend together during the summer. Do you have a summer job lined up yet?" "I do actually. I got hired at the Dairy Queen not too far from where we live." "That's awesome! I'm so happy for you!" "Thank you mom. Listen, there's something important I wanted to ask you." "Ask away honey." I take a deep breath to calm my nerves. "I was doing some thinking during my finals when I stupidly realized that Maui doesn't have a home to go back to for the summer. You know how rough his childhood was, getting bounced around from place to place. I was wondering if he could spend the summer with us. I'm not just asking because he's my boyfriend and I want to see him everyday."

"I know your intentions are good and innocent. I'll run it by your father but I'm sure that he'll say yes too. We love Maui dearly. It'd be lovely having an extra guy around the house, especially to keep your dad company during all of those sports games that I try to avoid watching as much as possible." The thought causes me to giggle. "Only you mom." She laughs. "Yeah only me. I'll call you back later to confirm things but make sure to run it by Maui if you haven't already. I know you're busy so I'll let you go. I'll talk to you later minnow. I love you." "Thank you so much mom and I love you too. Bye." "Bye." I hang up the phone, start the packing process for a bit, and then head over to Maui's dorm because I really need to talk to him about this.

I sprint over to Maui's dorm so I get there in no time, though I'm slightly short of breath. I take a moment to catch it before knowing on Maui's door. A minute later the door comes flying open. "Hey Maui. I know you and Jack are probably starting to pack up, but I was wondering if I could borrow you for a few minutes to talk. It's important." Maui pecks me on the lips. "Anything for my princess." I lead him out in the hallway to talk because Jack is in the dorm room. I like Jack, but this is private conversation. I wouldn't even want Ariel to hear it. Maui looks at me with concern. "Is everything okay Mo? You seem distracted." "I'm fine Maui. Anyways, I wanted to ask you something that's been on my mind and has probably been on yours too. I know you don't have any place to go to for the summer. I just got off the phone with my mom a little while ago. We were wondering if you would want to spend the summer with us?"

Maui looks at me in shock. "W-What'd you just say?" I smile fondly at him. "My parents and I would really like you to spend the summer with us." I notice his eyes becoming glassy and a tear slips out. I take his hands in mine and squeeze them lovingly. "Maui, we meant what we said during the holidays. You have a home with us. You're a part of the family. We all adore you." I'm about to open my mouth to speak again when Maui throws me off guard, pulling me into a passionate kiss that leaves me absolutely breathless when we pull apart. This passionate kiss is then followed by a super warm hug. "Mo, this means everything to me. I can't believe you're giving me a home just like that." "Maui, I love you. I'm so head over heels in love with you. I'd do anything for you. You deserve to be just as happy as you make me."

Maui wraps his arms around me even tighter. "I'm already happy because I'm with you." We stay in this embrace for a few more minutes before we pull apart. "I hate to ruin this moment, but I really need to get a move on with my packing. We all can meet up for supper at the dining hall in a couple hours." I nod. "Sounds good. See you later." I give him a salute and head back my dorm to do a little more packing myself. Ariel's finally back from wherever she was and began packing some things herself. While packing some more, my phone rings. I look at at the caller ID and eagerly answer it when I see that it's my dad. "Hey dad! What's up?" "Hey baby girl. Your mother was talking to me about Maui spending the summer with us. Like your mother's answer, mine is also yes." I do a dorky happy dance for a few seconds before responding. "That's wonderful! Thank you so much dad!" He chuckles into the phone. "You're welcome.  Did you run it by Maui?" "I did not even an hour ago. He's thrilled and very thankful." "I'm glad to hear it. I'll let you go for the night sweetheart. I can't wait to see you tomorrow." "The feeling's mutual. Good night dad. I love you." "Good night Moana and I love you too."

My dad hangs up first. I put my phone done and go back to packing, knowing that my reward to get through this tiring process is a nice group supper with Maui, Ariel, and Jack. It's crazy knowing that this will be our last group meal at the dining hall for three months. Three months isn't that long, but yet at the same time it is. I'll be nice having time off from massive loads of homework, studying, etc, though it'll take time getting used to my new work schedule. I'll be working four days a week in the summer. I start next week at Dairy Queen. I'll be working enough to get decent money, but yet I'll have three days off a week to be lazy, go on adventures, and more. Maui doesn't have a summer job lined up yet but I'm sure he'll find one soon.

After supper...

Maui, Ariel, Jack, and I linger in the dining hall for a little while after we finish eating to take it all in. We did it. The four of us survived hell and back and finished our first year of college. We're all one year close to our dream careers. I'm so proud of us.
