Chapter 16 

Maui's POV 

That evening... 

  I actually don't have too much homework and studying to do tonight. In fact, I'm just about done so I'm thinking of hanging out with Jack for awhile. Him and I have been so busy focusing on our amazing girlfriends the past few days that we haven't had any bro time other than during practice, but in my opinion that doesn't really count. Bro time is very important to me too. 

Twenty minutes later...

  I'm all done with my homework and studying for the night and turn my full attention onto Jack, who's been patiently waiting for me to finish for nearly an hour now. "I'm sorry for taking so long Jack. I tried to get done as fast as I could while making sure that I completed everything I was supposed to." He gives me a warm smile. "It's fine Maui. I'm just happy we have a little bit of downtime. I feel as though we don't get enough of that now that we're in college." I laugh tiredly. "Yeah no kidding. Anyways do you want to go out in do something or just chill here? I'm fine with either." "I feel like just saying here to be honest." I put a hand on his shoulder. "That's fine with me. I'm feeling a bit lazy myself." He grins at me. "I forgot to tell you how proud of you I am Maui. You totally destroyed Tamatoa today. The asshole no longer being captain is the greatest thing to happen besides getting on the team." 

  I grin back at him. "Thank you man. I'm thrilled that he's no longer captain, well at least for the time being." He nods in agreement. "Though I'm a little nervous one thing." Jack raises an eyebrow at me. "The great Maui is actually nervous? Wow that's a first." I swat his shoulder playfully. "Shut up dork." He shakes his head back and forth. "Really though, I need to ask you something important." Jack clasps his hands over mine. "You can tell me anything Maui. You're my best friend." A small smile tugs at my lips. I've never had a best friend that isn't Mo before. I love Mo, but it's really nice to have a best friend who's a guy too. "I'm worried that Tamatoa is going to go after Mo next. Mo told me she had an uncomfortable encounter with him when she was heading back to her dorm to grab some books for her last class of the day, though thankfully he didn't follow her to her dorm." 

   Jack's joking expression becomes serious. "Maui, you and I both know that you'll do everything in your power to make that that doesn't happen. Plus, you have me. You saved Ariel. That means the world to me. I'd do the same for Moana. Mo's a great girl and friend. I don't want anything bad happening to her." I return his serious facial expression. "Ariel's a great girl and friend as well." A moment of silence passes before I break it. "I think that as long as the four of us all have each other, things will be okay." Jack nods in agreement. "You took the words right out of my mouth Maui." We talk for a couple more hours before calling it a night and heading to bed. After all, classes don't stop just because a couple of college students are tired as hell.
