The Start Of Something New

Chapter 94

Moana's POV

A few days later... Moving Day...

Maui and I packed up all of our things a couple of days ago and are now currently moving them into both of our cars. What couldn't fit into our cars was placed into my parents' car. My parents have been sharing a car for a few months until my mom can afford to get a new one. She almost has enough money saved up to get the one she's been dreaming about for so long. I'm really happy for her. My mom deserves a new car for herself. I can't believe that I'm moving out of my childhood home. Even in college, I still lived here part time. I mean moving in with Maui is beyond exciting, but a small part of me will miss living here. Thankfully we'll only be forty five minutes away and can visit whenever we want.

I stand in my now empty bedroom with tears in my eyes. I face the window so no one can walk in on me crying. I wanted a few minutes to myself, to say goodbye as cheesy as it may sound. I bet my parents are probably going to turn this room into an office or movie room. It'll no longer be my bedroom anymore. The tears in my eyes then begin to fall. As right they reach the edges of my lips, Maui wraps his arms around me from behind. I jump a little bit because I didn't even hear him come in. "Princess, it's okay to be a little sad. This was your home for a big part of your life. It's going to be adjustment for you to be living in a new apartment forty five minutes away. It's a bit of an adjustment for me too. I've never lived in one place for a long period of time before, though I'm so excited. I'll finally have my permanent home with you."

I turn around to face him. "I'm sorry for crying Maui. I know it's ridiculous. This is a happy occasion. It's even more ridiculous that I'm crying because we'll be less than an hour away from here, just like campus was only an hour away from here." Maui hugs me even tighter, pressing a tender kiss to my forehead. "You have nothing to apologize for Mo. I'm not judging you and your parents certainly aren't. They've spent the last half an hour crying and telling me how much they're going to miss us, especially you. They love you so much. Your parents are the best parents anyone could ever have." I sniffle and wipe my tears away with the back of my hand. "I couldn't agree more on that." I stand in silence for a couple more minutes before looking at Maui once again. "I'm ready." Maui looks at me with concern. "Are you sure?" I nod and grab a hold of his hand, letting him lead me downstairs.

We linger downstairs for a few minutes with my parents before we all get in our cars and drive to the new apartment.

Forty five minutes later...

We all arrive to the new apartment and begin the process of moving everything in, except the main furniture we need like the sofa, recliners, kitchen table set, etc. Those are going to be delivered to us in a couple of hours. We went to Jordan's Furniture three days ago to pick everything out. It'll be really nice to get that furniture here so we can sit down and take breaks when needed. Moving in and unloading is going to be a lengthy process. It'll take us a few days to completely get settled in and get everything we need. For example, we're going to have to run to the store tonight to get some groceries. By the way, the apartment comes with the fridge, stove, oven, dishwasher, and garbage disposal. Our apartment is a ground level apartment which is nice. The garbage and laundry rooms are right down the hall. We'll only have to go to the dumpsters to throw away big things such as large boxes that won't fit in the trash cans in the garbage room.

Three hours later...

The delivery guys from Jordan's Furniture just showed up an hour late. I'm a bit annoyed but late is better than never I guess. We already prepaid our purchases the other day so all we have to do is pay the fifty dollar delivery charge with a twenty dollar tip. Once they place all of the furniture, we sit down and take a break for a few minutes to talk to my parents before they leave to go back home. My dad is the first one to speak after a short, awkward silence. "We're really proud of you both. This is such a big step for the two of you and you're handling it a lot better than we expected you to." I smile a sad smile at him. "Well I was a mess earlier today but Maui reminded me that we really aren't that far from you guys. In fact, our apartment is fifteen minutes closer to home than university was." My mom laughs. "That's a positive way to look at it."

My mom envelops me in a hug. "Don't think that we're going to drastically going to change up your old bedroom. We plan on making it into an office, but we're still going to keep up a lot of the pictures that you left behind, as tribute to you. We want to be reminded of you even when you're not physically with us. Your father and I love you so much little minnow." I giggle at that nickname. I'm not little anymore but I know I always will be in my parents' eyes. It's a parent thing I guess. "I love you both so much. Promise me that we'll see each other soon?" My father smiles lovingly at me before giving me a hug himself. "We'll stop by in a few days to see how things are coming along. If there's anything you or Maui need, text or call us to let us know. We don't mind getting a few things for you both."

Maui comes over to my side and wraps an arm around my waist. "Sina and Tui, you're too good to us. Thank you for everything." They both smile and hug Maui before hugging me one last time. After, they finally leave to head back home. When they're out of sight, I turn and face Maui. "So now what?" Maui smiles at me lovingly. "This is the start of our future, the start of something new. It's time to embrace it." Yeah, I think to myself, it's time to embrace it.
