Fixing Dat Bone 

Chapter 78

Moana's POV

  Tears cloud my vision as the paramedics come and lift Maui onto a stretcher, getting ready to take him to the hospital. My poor baby. What did this have to happen to him? He's such a sweetheart. He doesn't deserve this. It should have been me that got tripped by that asshole instead of him. This is going to put him out of football for awhile. The tears that cloud my eyes slip out as I get in the ambulance with him. I'm not in the mental state to drive behind the wheel right now. Before the ambulance doors close, Rapunzel tells me that her, Flynn, Jack, and Ariel will meet us at the hospital. All I do is nod because I don't trust my voice right now. Talking will make me even more upset. For the twenty minute ride to the hospital, I sit in silence and pray that Maui will be okay. 

20 minutes later...

 We get to the hospital without any delays. The paramedics lift Maui out of the ambulance and I follow closely behind. We enter the ER, sign him in, and he gets rushed off to surgery, which results in me having to play the waiting game in a nearby waiting room. I really hate the waiting game...

Half an hour later...

  The rest of the group shows up along with the coach. I'm a bit curious as to why he's here but I'm also happy that he's here. He's a nice man and is so good to me. I know he wouldn't go out of his way to come here if he didn't. I give them all a nod of acknowledgement before zoning out once again. I can tell that they're all worried about me almost as much as Maui but I just don't feel like talking. If I have to communicate, I'll use gestures for the most part. The only person I have the strength to talk to is Maui's doctor/surgeon, and that's because I want to know his condition. I'm sure Maui will pull through the surgery. Usually the doctor can pop the bone back in, but Maui's break was too severe for that. The bone was severely misplaced that the only option to fix it is surgery. I hope my baby pulls through. 

Five hours later... after surgery...

Maui's doctor/surgeon comes out. I immediately rise to my feet and make my way over to him. "H-How is he?" His doctor gives me a kind smile. "I was able to fix the bone and pop it back in eventually. It's secure and Maui's going to be fine. He'll have to wear a cast and be on crutches for a few weeks though." I throw myself into the doctor's arms, catching him completely off guard. It takes him a minute to snap out of it and hug me back. "Thank you Doc. How long does he have to stay in the hospital for?" "Two nights for observational purposes. I have to go put the cast on his leg and put him in a room, but I'll summon you when he can have visitors, which should be an about an hour from now." For the first time since arriving here, a smile forms on my face. Maui's going to be fine. I'm so happy and relieved. 

  An hour later...

  Maui's doctor comes back and motions for us to follow him. We ride the elevator up to the second floor. When we get off the elevator, we go down three different corridors before we get to Maui's room. I smile even wider when I see that he's awake. "Maui!" He whips his head to look at me and smiles tiredly. "Princess, I'm so happy you're here." I throw myself in his arms, being cautious of his broken leg of course when doing so. "I was so scared Maui." A slips down my cheek and Maui wipes it away with his thumb. "I'm okay princess. You're not going to lose me. Ever." I press my forehead against his and give him a gentle kiss. "I love you Maui." He kisses me back gently. "I love you too Mo. Where's the rest of the gang and coach? I heard from my doctor that they're here too." "They are. They're standing right outside your room. I'll tell them to come in." I walk to the doorway and quietly tell them that they can come in. It's way past visiting hours but no one seems to care at this hospital thankfully. 

  For the next couple of hours, we talk with one another while coach talks mainly to Maui, telling them the unfortunate news that he can't play in any games for the next month or so, though he's allowed to supervise and help give pointers during practices. Maui's bummed about it, but he's glad that it's only a month or so rather than the entire season. He feels that as long as he's able to play in the games leading up the playoffs, landing the team a spot in the playoffs, then that's all that matters to him. He's actually handling this news pretty well. I'm proud of him, I really am. He's come so far the past few years, including this past year. He becomes a better man by the day. If this happened a year ago, he'd storm to kingdom about this. He'd rage and rage until the end of the time. That Maui's gone, he's no more. 

An hour later...

 I glance at the clock on the wall and see that it's already three in the morning. Maui's doctor comes by and quietly asks everyone to leave for the night, except me of course. I'm allowed to stay since I'm his girlfriend. I tell Maui and his doctor that I need to run back to my dorm to grab a change of clothes, freshen up, etc when his doctor motions to a closet. I give him a look of confusion but open the closet anyway, finding everything that I need for the night. "Thank you Doctor." "You're welcome miss... what's your name dear?" I smile sincerely at him. "Moana." He smiles back. "Moana. What a pretty name for a nice and pretty girl." I blush out of habit. He coughs awkwardly and turns back to Maui. "I'm about to get off of my shift for the night but Nurse Jessica will be here for the next eight hours or so to take care of you, though my emergency number is posted on that bulletin board next to you in case she forgets what the number is and has to get a hold of me. Good night Maui. Good night Moana." 

   We both say "Good night" in unison. He gives us one last smile and wave, finally leaving for the night. When he's out of sight, I climb into bed with Maui, leaning my head against his chest. I can feel his chest rise and fall steadily. We stare at each other for a few minutes, share one last kiss for the night, and fall asleep simultaneously. The last thing I feel before sleep completely overcomes me is Maui pulling me in closer to him, causing me to burst into a smile in my sleep.

By the way, that play on words in the title is on purpose. I was trying to be funny with my dorky sense of humor. Also, I plan on doing a Q and A video on Asexuality for my Youtube channel this weekend and would love for everyone to leave a question about it for me to answer in the video. I've gotten a couple of really good ones so far but I need a few more.  :) -Mary
