Chapter 79

Maui's POV

The next day...

  So far so good in terms of my post surgery recovery. I have to stay one more night for observation purposes but I'm free to go tomorrow. I get an additional day off from classes to but have to go to my classes again the following day. I'm glad I have tomorrow off to rest a little bit because I'm going need it in order to function, face the stares and whispers of others, etc. My professors have been pretty understanding except for one but oh well. There's always a bad seed in every batch. I just have to suck it up and deal with it the best that I can. 

   Anyways, Mo ended up spending the entire night with me but had left about a half an hour ago to go back to her dorm to freshen up, change her clothes, grab a few things, etc. She's planning on bringing us back some egg tacos from Taco Bell for breakfast. My baby girl's so good to me. When I get out my cast and off my stupid crutches, I'm going to take her out on a nice date and spoil her rotten, even more so than usual. Our one year anniversary is next month, which will be here before we know it. My relationship with Mo is my longest and will be my last. She's the only girl I've ever imagined having a future with and that hasn't changed. In fact, those thoughts have increased even more the past few months. I'm so glad that we've been able to push through our struggles. So few couples last longer than a month or two nowadays. It's really sad that loyalty and commitment are almost obsolete. 

Two hours later...

  Mo's finally back with two bags full of tacos, nachos, etc. "Wow Mo, did you buy out Taco Bell?" She rolls her eyes playfully at me before placing my food in front of me. "Yes because two bags worth of food is all Taco Bell sells. By the way, you're welcome." I grin cheekily. "Thank you princess." An adorable blush nonchalantly creeps up onto her cheeks. She pulls out her food as well and we eat together in a peaceful silence. When we're done eating, I page my nurse so she can help me get in the shower, get dressed, etc. Mo leaves the room for a bit to grab some things out of her. This whole process takes a half an hour but when it's over, my nurse gives Mo and I privacy once again. 

  Mo moves closer to me, leaning her head on the edge of the bed. "I didn't sleep well last night so I'm really tired." I frown slightly when hearing that. "What kept you awake Mo?" She bites her lip and looks down at the floor. "I-It was nothing. Don't worry about it Maui." I frown even deeper. "Mo, talk to me... please. What were the nightmares about?" She sniffles a bit and looks at me with tears in her eyes. My heart begins to ache. I extend my arms out for her and she throws herself into them, hitting my broken leg by accident. The impact sends a rush of pain up and down my body but I ignore it because Mo's upset and she's my priority. "M-Maui", she says in between sobs, "I have some nightmares that the guy who broke your leg killed you. I-I tried to save you but I feel failed." I rub her back in soothing circles until her sobs are simply sniffles. 

 "Mo, listen to me baby because this is important and I need you to remember exactly what I'm about to tell you okay?" She sniffles again but nods, confirming that she's willing to hear me out. "Moana, I love you so much. You are the one and only girl for me. There isn't anyone else I'd ever want but you. You complete me in every way, shape, and form. My annoying ass is going to be around to protect you, annoy you, and love you for a very long time. Okay?" She nods and I press tenders kisses to her forehead, lips, and cheeks. "Good." Her expression of sadness begins to turn into a beautiful smile. "I was hoping you'd be around to annoy me for a very long time because my day's not complete without you annoying me somehow." I chuckle and wrap my arms around her. "The same goes for you princess." 

  Mo leans her head into my chest. "I love you Maui. Thank you for not dying on me." I look at her with all of the love in the world. "I love you more and I would never die on you, well that is unless I had to protect you from dying." She gasps. "No Maui, don't say that." I put my hands up in surrender. "I'm sorry but I just have to be honest." She sighs but nods into my chest. I open my mouth again to comment further but when I look down at her, I see that she's sound asleep. A light chuckle escapes from my mouth. I adjust myself to get comfortable and soon end up falling asleep myself. I guess a broken leg and long surgery can take a lot of energy out of a guy.
