Chapter 52

Moana's POV

A few days later... New Year's Eve

  It's a New Year's Eve and I'm so happy. This week has been amazing and in just a few hours, Maui and I get to share our most special kiss yet to ring in the new year. This past year has been both the worst and best of my life. Hopefully this upcoming year as of midnight will be more good than bad. I'm also so happy that Maui and I haven't been bothering with any homework during the holiday break and that we get to go on a nice trip, just the two of us without anyone else bothering us before classes start back up two days after we come back. Anyways, my parents and a couple of their friends are sitting by the TV drinking wine and watching some weird show that I forget the name of. Maui and I are up in my room relaxing on my bed for a bit. I'm lying in his arms with my head leaning against his shoulder. 

 "Maui, how do you think this year has treated you?" Maui seems intrigued by my question. "I think that other than the incidents with Tamatoa and Scar, this year has been life changing for me. I got accepted into my first choice college with good scholarships, got onto the football team, became captain of the team in a short period of time, and got the girl of my dreams. That's a pretty good year overall if you ask me. What about you Mo?" I smile at him. "It could have been better, but it could have been worse too. The best part though was when you finally asked me out after all this time." I playfully nudge him with a grin. "What took you so long Maui?" Maui rolls his eyes playfully and nudges me back. "Ha ha, very funny. You know if you were so eager for me to ask you out, you could have asked me out first." I grin cheekily. "Yeah I know but it's cuter when the guy does it." 

   He nods in agreement and pulls me even closer to him. My head is so close to his heart that I can hear it racing. "Maui, I never your heart could beat so fast." He bites his lip and looks away shyly. "It only does that when someone mentions your name and/or when you're so close to me." I pull his face to mine and kiss him passionately. It starts off gentle and then becomes more heated. Seeing that my parents are distracted with their company downstairs and are probably a little drunk at this point, I jump out of bed quickly and lock the door, that way no one will walk in on us having a heated makeout session. Maui applauds for my quick thinking. "Good thinking princess. Now let's get back to it." I nod and jump into bed (literally) and he crashes his lips onto mine. We makeout for a good hour with only a few short breaks to catch our breath. Kissing Maui is so magical that I never want to stop. I want to do it for the rest of my life. 

  Maui and I smile warmly at each other and say in unison "That was amazing", causing us to burst into laughter. "Maui, it's like we can read each other's minds." "I absolutely agree. There's no one who knows me better than you and vice versa. Well besides your parents of course. They know you pretty well too, considering they gave birth you and all... well your mother pushed you out of her... land down under..." I place a finger to Maui's lips to silence him. "I love you, but you're rambling like crazy Maui." He blushes and chuckles to himself. "I'm sorry. I know I do that all the time and it can get annoying at times." I wrap my arms around him, pulling him in for a warm hug. "You're so cute when you're flustered." Maui hugs me back and hides his face in the crook of my neck. I can feel the warmth radiating from his face. "Aw my baby's blushing. That's so cute!", I squeal. He pulls apart from the hug, smirks at me, and silences me by giving me a breathtaking kiss. 

   The kiss catches me off guard but I kiss him back with an equal amount of passion. I go for round two when Maui pulls apart, giving me another one of his famous smirks. "Aw look who's flustered now." A deep crimson blush forms on my face, giving Maui the satisfaction that I am indeed as flustered as he was just moments ago. "Okay Maui, you got me. Now both of us have experienced being flustered, blushing tomatoes. Are you happy?" Maui ruffles my hair playfully. "I am thank you for asking. Anyways, we should head back downstairs soon. It's ten thirty and they're going to be showing the ball coverage live in NYC starting at eleven. It's tradition to watch it. It's the true symbol of ringing in the new year." I smile. "Yeah you're right. Let's stay up here for fifteen more minutes and then we'll reunite with everyone downstairs." He nods in agreement and we relax in bed together for fifteen more minutes before heading back downstairs.

   When we get downstairs, my parents and their friends are pretty wasted. My parents aren't alcoholics, I promise. They only drink on special occasions and holidays. I'm glad they're having fun with their friends. I'm just worried about how hungover they're going to be in the morning. Heck, they'll probably sleep through most of the day tomorrow. Nothing wrong with that, it'd give Maui and I some alone time. 

One minute before midnight...

 It's only about one minute away from midnight. My parents, their friends, Maui, and I do the countdown to ring in the new year. The second that the clock strikes midnight, the ball drops on TV and Maui and I's lips crash against one another's. Best introduction to a new year ever.
