A firm knock came on your door, breaking you out of your disturbing thoughts. The Black cover book rested on the couch cushion in front of you on page twenty, but it had been abandoned for quite some time. Your hand went to your eyes, rubbing them while you stood and made your way towards the door. You caught a glimpse of your clock, reading the time.
Unusually late for someone to come by. Bet no one needs to borrow a cup of sugar at midnight.
The room was dark, but the hallway lights outside showed the shadow of your visitor at your door. You looked through the peephole, your tired eyes quickly identifying the tall, dirty blonde haired man standing there, wearing a navy blue t-shirt and jeans, his brown jacket ontop of it all.
Your hands went to the cold locks and unlocked the door, opening it slowly. The sound alerted him, his eyes meeting yours. You gave him a small smile, holding onto the door while you rested your head on it.
"Can't sleep?" He was the first to ask.
You shook your head no in response.
He took a good minute to look over you. Your hair was slightly messy, but in the current style you had it made you look more decent than you thought you looked, But he thought you looked beautiful nonetheless. Your attire was a simple big white football t-shirt and black shorts, nothing special. You didn't mind Leon seeing you this way, at least you weren't naked if anyone else was to come down the hallway.
"Hmm." Came his reply.
"I'm guessing you can't sleep either?" You spoke, watching his head shake no. "You've been out?" You gestured to his clothes. He looked down at himself, nodding his head. "They called me back at the agency, that's what I came to inform you about actually."
"Oh." You opened the door and stepped aside, letting him walk in. Your living room was dark, but a large lamp in the corner basked everything with a warm glow. Ever since Raccoon City, you never trusted the dark. You at least had one light on in every room of your apartment, but at least it gave off a cozy aura.
You flipped the switch to turn on the bright light in the kitchen, blinding you for a second. "Want anything? Coffee? Tea?"
"Coffee, thanks." Leon pulled out a seat at the kitchen table while you started the coffee maker. You grabbed two mugs from the upper cabinet, making sure to also grab the small jar of sugar as well.
"So, what happened?" You asked, opening the fridge for the milk.
"Long story or short story?"
You turned to him, the carton in your hand. "We've got all night. Unless you're determined we'll make it till morning."
He let out a chuckle, resting his head on his hand, propped up by his elbow on the table. "Short story then. The President's daughter is missing."
You placed the carton on the kitchen counter, taking a moment to process what he had said. "The President's daughter is missing?" You repeated, disbelief in your voice. "Mhm."
"No shit." You turned around, looking at him. "What else did they say?"
He started to explain, making gestures with his free hand while he spoke. "Reports say it mostly could've been a kidnapping, they've got every agent available around the whole US on heavy search." You slowly turned around, watching the coffee fill up the pot. The smell drifted around you, making you feel warm and cozy. Yet your mind was racing with thoughts.
"I wasn't informed of this," you began, looking back towards him, "They send you out on a search too?"
Leon rose from his seat, walking over towards you, his hands resting on the counter. "That's actually what I came to talk about with you."
