A gunshot interrupted the tension, stopping the monster in his tracks, body stiff with confusion.
You held your breath, your body too frozen to apprehend what had just happened. Out of the corner of your tear blurred eye, you saw him, gun raised, sitting up as best as he could, using his other arm for support.
He fired two shots again, both missing the beast in front of you, yet hitting his intended target.
The large, red nitrogen canister right next to the beast bursted like a bomb, spraying the creature with a large layer of nitrogen gas. He started to hiss loudly, screeching towards the ceiling as the gas found sanctuary in his wounds, covering him up in frost. He started to thrash around, the frost burning him like an intense flame.
Your actions acted quicker than your mind, forcing you to grab your gun off the ground and fire with every single bullet you had left in the magazine. Leon copied your actions, firing the entire contents of his magazine into the frozen beast, getting his weak points as best as his aim could allow.
After another moment, the nitrogen gas cloud cleared, leaving a frozen bloodied beast in its wake. He emitted a loud cry, falling to his knees with limp arms at his sides. His wounds exploded, letting out a large amount of blood and other oddly colored bodily fluids before falling face first to the floor. Whatever remained from the gas continued to cover his body in a thin sheet of frost, chilling the air around you.
You lowered your gun, taking in the sight with a few shaking breaths. The cold air began to nip at your cheeks, turning them rosy.
An agonized groan caught your attention, making you look over to find Leon forcing himself up on his knees, his hands clutching his sides tightly.
"Leon!" Your voice broke while crying out his name, your arms grabbing ahold of his shoulders to steady him. He let out another groan of pain from your touches, practically falling into your embrace. His weight had you leaning back slightly, but you didn't care the slightest. He was alive, and in your arms safe.
You shifted both of your bodies, getting yourself into a kneeling position while you kept him sitting up on your propped knee. He panted heavily, opening his tightly closed eyes to meet yours, lava hot tears freely dripping off your cheeks and into your shirt, a few falling onto his shoulder.
"(Y/N)." He panted, moving his head more to get a better look at you. He lifted one hand, slowly bringing it closer to your cheek. His thumb rubbed the tears away, his warm leather clad palm cupping your cheek lightly. You let out a shaking whimper, leaning your head into his hand, his fingers catching the tears.
"You're alright." He spoke.
"Of course," you smiled a bit, keeping your hold tightly on him. "You told me to run, remember? Now look what it's got you in...".
He looked down at himself, seeing the blood splattered on his clothes. He looked back up towards your face, seeing how your gaze traveled along with his. He felt a pang of hurt in his chest, knowing how much the scene assumed he was injured, fooling you at the same time.
"It's not...," he cleared his throat, "It's not my blood."
You let out a large sigh of relief, his hand traveling up to tuck a piece of hair behind your ear. "That's great, no damage was done?"
"No. Although..., he did beat me up pretty good."
You felt more tears fall from your eyes, yet you made no attempts to wipe them away. Leon did that for you. Your smile faded, leaving an expressionless, wet mask. Your head hurt, your chest was in pain. You were happy he was alright, but his actions were stupid.
