"So? What's it say?"
Leon held the note, leaning against a house wall while he read through the words over and over, trying to get the translation correct as best as he could. You stood around, patiently waiting for him to translate. Leon's jacket was tied around your waist, the battle that occurred long moments ago made it too hot for you to wear any longer.
"I think this was put up recently." He got off the wall and slowly paced around, heading towards the bonfire. "It says here that two United States government agents are here investigating the village. Don't let these Americans get in contact with the prisoner." He stopped a foot away from the fires, still roaring strong with the charred wood odor. You kicked a small rock around with your foot, the yellow envelope in your hand still.
"Does it say anything about the prisoner?"
He looked down the paper more, reading over the paragraph silently to himself then translated: "For those not yet informed..the prisoner is being held in an old house beyond the farm. We'll transfer the prisoner to a secure location when ready...yada yada yada, do not let the Americans get near the prisoner, signed Chief Bitores Mendez." He sighed, crumpling up the paper in his hands before tossing it into the flames. He looked at you, motioning with his hand to toss the pictures into the fire. You complied, watching the flames greedily gorge themselves with the pictures, reducing them to ash rather quickly.
"Let's go find ourselves a farm." He turned away from the fire, heading towards the path Hunnigan informed. The path ended with a new set of double doors, but instead of stone, these doors were made with wood and iron frames. They made a creaking sound when opened, like doors that desperately needed to be oiled.
The new area turned out to be the farm. A few tall buildings with the iconic barn shape were just up ahead. Lots of cows were fenced in and munching on hay while chickens seemed to roam around in search of corn. "Stay close, doubt any of us want to get lost at this point." Leon reached for his gun, seeing movement inside a barn. A man in overalls worked in the barn, scooping up hay into the cow pens. It was odd he didn't react to the church bells, maybe it didn't effect him.
You slowly walked forward, mindful of your steps while keeping an eye on the old man. It didn't seem like the man noticed the two of you, but that might change in a few moments. Leon aimed at the man, waiting for the perfect moment to shoot.
He fired, shooting right between the man's eyes. The gunfire sent the cows on a loud craze, the chickens flapping their wings frantically. You noticed another man pop up from one of the barn cells, a pitchfork in his hand. You took aim and fired, shooting his shoulder to make him drop the weapon. A few more shots pierced into his chest, sending him to a pile of hay. His body dissolved, leaving the hay a disgusting murky color. "I think that's all of them." You lowered your weapon just a little, looking around for any other sign.
"Let's keep moving." You followed Leon to the next set of doors. Same double doors, yet made with steel plating and wood frames. They have a unique way of decorating doors.
The path led down a trench path, dead trees parted and forming an arch overhead. As you both continued on, you noticed a strange little statue. More like a bloodied pike with an X formed by sticks, dripping with fresh blood. Two skulls hung onto the tips of the X by rope. "Does this signal anything?" You examined it, but refrained from touching any of it.
"We should be more careful up ahead. I've seen these before."
"Where?"
"Back with those dynamite trees. They signal danger."
"Great." You frowned, looking at the bloody stand one more time before continuing to walk ahead. Leon continued on by your side, looking ahead down the path. The silence was taunting. Ever since Leon told you the meaning of that sign, it's getting you really worried about your surroundings.
