You could never get used to the stench of rotting copper, the fragrance alone recalling you of your nightmares in Raccoon City. You always had to remind yourself that those nightmares were real, that Umbrella caused them, but it was all in your past.
"It's like a prison in here," Leon spoke, shining his flashlight through the narrow hallway, full of various cell bar doors. It was dark and gloomy, the smell most potent in some cages, followed by dripping sounds of water, or blood.
"Never expected a place like this, to be honest, everywhere we go is full of surprises." You pointed your flashlight into a certain cell, piquing your interest the most due to the bars. They were pulled apart, allowing what was ever inside to escape. The cell contained strange looking body bags, leaking dark blood and other bodily fluids to the floor, hanging from the ceiling on rusted chains.
"What type of experiments do you think they left here?"
"Who knows, probably all those other strange creatures we fought on the way here." Leon continued walking, seeing a door up ahead on a different platform. The stairs that were used to get up there were torn off, resulting in him pulling himself up first before reaching over, grabbing your hand and helping you up.
"God, these heels are killing me." You struggled to get a proper hold as he brought you up, helping you stand properly. "Why not take them off?"
"I can't take them off! I don't want to walk barefoot in this mess!" You complained, staring down at the ground. The bottom of your torn dress was already stained with dirt and patches of blood, leaving you wondering how worse your feet could've been if you took off the heels. However, walking barefoot didn't sound too bad.
That was probably the pain talking.
"You can think about that later, we're almost to Ashley I think." Leon opened the door, leaving it open for you to follow.
It brought you towards yet another hallway, leading up onto a large group of stairs. Not to your surprise once again, a group of Ganados were waiting, barricaded behind lots of crates and sandbags.
"I'll snipe the farthest ones, you get the closer ones." You took out your sniper, peering around the corner where you spotted men with crossbows at the ready. Through thermal, you noticed something odd about each man's head you shot off.
Their bodies contained no heat signatures. Only the parasites that bursted through their necks contained copious amounts of heat showed through the scope.
Zombies. We've been killing zombies the entire time.
"Unbelievable," you whispered to yourself, reloading a new clip. "Leon, you've noticed this right?"
"What?" He looked over at you for a moment, taking a second to reload another clip into his gun.
"These Ganados we've been fighting the entire time? They're zombies."You quickly aimed towards a far Ganado attempting to sneak a hit at Leon. "Their bodies are cold, but the parasites are warm. These things kill the person before taking them over, they're literal walking zombies."
"You mean to say that this is Raccoon all over again?"
"Not exactly!" You lowered the rifle for a moment, seeing no other hidden men in sight. "Raccoon was a virus, here is Las Plagas. If Umbrella's here, do you think they're trying to obtain Las Plagas?"
"Who knows, maybe it's why everyone is obsessing over that sample." Leon slowly headed up the stairs, keeping his gun aimed while his eyes scanned the area.
"I feel like maybe I'm overthinking this," you continued talking, joining Leon's side while scoping higher ground. "When people are worried, they tend to over think?"
