"So, those things grow back their limbs??"
"Yep. Trust me it's something you don't want to see; imagine a starfish growing back it's arm, but with blood and tentacles."
"Ew," Ashley wrinkled her nose, shaking the thought out of her head. "Are they all dead?"
"That depends on how many their are, I'm thinking we killed... about four? Maybe five, maybe Leon's killing more." You sighed, leaning against the wall next to Ashley's door. She leaned against the door, her back facing the metal bar window. "You ever just wish their was a way you could do things differently, to where all this maybe would've never happened?"
Her questioned replayed in your mind, making you think back on your past life. Many times has that similar question ran through your thoughts, it's cold hands stroking the delicate drapes of your scarred and bloodied childhood. You wondered if you had never ran away, your parents may have dropped their act and treat you like their own daughter, give you a better life that an actual little girl deserved.
Then again, your parents never changed, despite past nights they promised you better, it was all under alcohol's suspense. You might've ended up dead by your Father's feet if you'd never run away that night.
Thankfully, you did, which lead you into the hands of Wesker saving you from what felt like decades of experiments and tests, countless suffering. You wondered if Wesker was the father figure you needed in your life, but you never really understood what a true Father figure felt like.
Love at the time was something you felt foreign to. You felt like you didn't deserve it."(Y/N)?" Ashley turned her gaze towards you after finding herself randomly pacing her room, seeing your blank expression towards the ground, your (e/c) eyes glassy. "Hm?" You looked over at her, recollecting your thoughts.
"You okay?"
"Yeah yeah, I was just thinking," you shifted your stance towards your other leg. "I think about what I could've done different all the time. Unfortunately, my life played out in a way where I couldn't exactly make my own choices."
"Sounds tough." Ashley sat down against a wall, bringing her knees to her chest. "Y'know, when you're the President's daughter, your friends you grow up with tend to look at you much more differently then how they did before. People don't think life is hard for me, but it is, especially when your Mom wasn't around when you were little."
"Hm, I didn't grow up with a Mom either." I killed her.
The creaking of an open door made you grab your gun, but stop when you recognized the footsteps rushing towards you. "Leon!" You smiled, seeing him return the gesture with a lesser grin, covered in various blood splatters from Regenerators.
"Lets get Ashley out of here." He opened the door, holding it open for you to walk inside, seeing Ashley in her current position on the ground. She looked up towards the two of you with full fledged smiles, getting up from the ground and breaking into a sprint towards you two.
"You okay?" Leon questioned, recieving a nod from the girl."Alright, now that we got you back, of course we need a way out." You looked towards the door, thinking while biting your lip slightly. "Ashley, did you by chance see any other routes when they brought you here?"
She walked next to you, shaking her head. "Only route I saw is what Leon came through, kinda hard to see your surroundings when you're being dragged somewhere."
"Leon?" You looked back, seeing him look rather distracted with something in his hands. "Leon, are you listening?" His head flicked your direction, followed by the sound of quickly crumpling paper. "Yeah? Uh," he put a hand behind his head, appearing rather nervous, "We could try... the waste disposal."
"You're joking," you gave him a look, which is immediately what he expected. "Look, the routes I went were all a dead end, we may as well try that garbage dump."
"A garbage dump?? Are you serious?" Ashley couldn't help but wrinkle her nose again with disgust. Leon let out a sigh, letting his head drop back while looking at the ceiling. "Women."
"Men." You replied, rolling your eyes before throwing your hands up in defeat. "Alright, lets go."
The three of you left the room, hearing faint but frantic footsteps ahead. They must be watching us, you couldn't help but think that while grabbing the rifle Leon handed back to you. You pulled out your handgun as well, instructing Ashley to stay behind the two of you while turning the corner.
Ganados, carrying an assortment of weaponry were waiting your arrival. Shock batons, ball n' chains, you name it. One even had a crossbow you'd adore to have in your possession, but resisted the urge to carry the extra weight. Leon fired the first and closest man he saw, forcing the others to let out roars from their companion's fall.
You used your rifle to take out the more lingering targets, preparing to step forward and strike from their far distances. It surprised you when you shot one's head clean off, only for the parasite to burst from their corpse. This particular parasite seemed a bit more larger, it's wiggling tentacles more spiky with hints of green tips st the end. If it got too close, they'd lash out at you, making you constantly worry for Leon and Ashley's safety if they were to get too close.
Once the last one was down, you changed for a new magazine clip, letting out a sigh of relief for just a moment. From the corner of your eye, you found Leon leaning against a table full of empty crates and loose papers, wincing at something on his upper left arm.
"You okay?" You asked, grabbing his attention.
"Yeah, I got this while searching for a way to open that door earlier."
"From what?" You rolled up his sleeve, gazing questionably at the awkward looking puncture marks dotting his skin.
"Y'know Those Regenerators?"
"Yeah." You looked at him.
"They come with spikes."
Your breathing seemed to catch in your throat for only a moment, taking out a small package from one of your belt pouches. "Of course they do," you pulled out a small alcohol pad, giving no warning while cleaning the blood off the wounds, leaving him slightly hissing from the sting. He preferred for you not to warn him sometimes, which helped with the pain he could take on his own.
"Best not to get these infected while jumping down a trash shoot, am I right?"He chuckled. "Right."
You threw the trash aside, grabbing your gun in hand. "Lets keep going."
Now, the three of you walked back towards the garbage disposal area, thankfully no Ganado or hidden parasite was around.
"Looks like this is it." Leon looked over the edge, gazing down at the darkness below. He questioned how much feet the drop would be, but all the garbage around them should make the fall an easy one.
"Ugh, it stinks." Ashley covered her face with both hands. "Sure does." Leon commented, grabbing ahold of your hand immediately.
"Wha-Leon what're you doing?" You asked, tugging on his hand but his grip wouldn't budge. He didn't look towards you, he looked towards Ashley, giving her a look you couldn't see.
"No way Leon."
"Way."
He grabbed ahold of her hand in the same motion he did with yours, seeing Ashley had attempted to step away.
He jumped off first, forcing you both downwards with him.
The sound of your voice screaming his name and Ashley's terrified cry echoed down the dark abyss.
