You and Leon traveled back the way you arrived, this time taking a different route which Leon led ahead.

The same ragged breathing echoed from various places, making your heart rate increase dramatically. From what Luis's notes read, you didn't have the proper equipment to fight those Regenerators. Attacking them head on would be suicide.

Speaking of attacking head on, as soon as you both turned the corner, a Regenerator stood in the middle of the path, mouth hanging open with exposed shark like teeth. Leon held an arm out in front of you to stop you in your steps, keeping you behind him as he grabbed his shotgun, aiming quickly down towards its leg.

It only took one shot for his leg to burst off of its body, causing the creature to emit a gargled screech before falling face down, appearing to be dead. It was only when the stump of its knee began to fizzle and bubble did it drop your hopes immediately.
"C'mon!" Leon grabbed your arm, forcing you to run past the creature. You couldn't help but glance over from the corner of your eye to watch the bubbling, seeing sickly tan colored tentacles burst from the mutilated wound.

Leon rammed his shoulder against pale gate doors, bringing you inside before closing them shut. "That thing's already on its feet!"

"What?" You turned around, gasping in awe as the Regenerator slowly pulled itself from the ground, standing on two legs. The skin of the new arm appeared smooth as grey marble, but the skin underneath looked like it's insides were crawling with maggots.

"(Y/N)! Inside!" Leon grabbed your arm yet again, breaking you from your frozen gaze while pulling you into another room, slamming the door shut behind you.
You refocused your attention towards the puff of mist forming in front of your mouth, escaping from your lips from your ragged breathing. Your skin prickled with goosebumps, forcing you to look around. It looked like a freezer full of science equipment... and body bags hanging in random places. "Where are we?"

"We're in a freezer, looks like it's a supply closet to that science lab. We'll be safe here for now, maybe that thing will pass."

"I sure hope it does," You walked towards the most interesting thing you spotted out of all the strange crates and frost covered plastic bags crowding the frozen area. It appeared to be a sealed mini freezer, the glass so clouded with the heavy ice fog surrounding it. You attempted to press your hand to the glass and wipe away the glass, but it wouldn't work.

To your dismay, your curiosity seemed to get the better of you. Lifting your gun from the holster, you aimed it straight towards the glass, aiming at a spot where you hoped it wouldn't damage the items inside. "Tch," you stopped yourself, looking at your gun. "Wasting a bullet? Not your style (Y/N)." You turned it around and banged it hard against the tough glass, which was surprisingly easy to break.

The shards fell around your feet, grabbing Leon's attention towards your area. "What happened?" He approached you, seeing you turn your head his direction. "I wanted to see what was inside."

"So you broke the glass?"

"Yeah." You shrugged.

"There's a handle right there." You looked back at where he pointed, finding a rather large valve covered with small icicles. "Y'know what Leon," you looked back at him, "I chose the easier route, okay?" The sass in your voice was enough to lighten up Leon's spirit slightly.

An amused expression came on his face, making him lightly shake his head. "Alright. What's inside?"

"I don't know, but we're about to find out." Your free hand slowly reached through the cold mist, your fingertips coming into contact with a cool metal round object. It seemed pretty small, but was big enough to wrap your fingers around. You brought it out slowly, looking down at the object.
